New brake pad install....forgot 20degree
Hi all, I did my first pad change last night and was guided by a friend who's done a few. Everything went smooth (except for a couple of cracked sensor housings) and took about 1 hour. This morning I realized that the words "20 degrees" didn't come out of either of our mouths. We just pulled the old pads, pressed out the pistons, inserted new pads. I did a bit of break-in and found no problems at all, works great.
Am I looking at imminent disaster not having aligned the pads at the specified 20 degrees? Should I go back in and do it again? What possible outcomes of not having done it? Thanks 1985 911

Just because you didn't set them to 20 degrees doesn't mean they're not at 20 degrees, they don't always rotate out of adjustment.
If they are off, the car will pull to one side and/or one or more wheels will lock up before the others. If you can apply the brakes hard and there is no drama I wouldn't worry about it.

Are you talking about the pistons?

If you just swapped the pads, you should be OK; assuming you didn't turn the caliper pistons while pushing them back in.

thanks for the replies. I think I confused myself by reading too much.... I've been mixing info from a caliper rebuild into the pad replacement project. I feel better now. =]
