Possible 996tt purchase

I am looking at possibly buying a 2003 996tt from a local Porsche dealer. Car has 45K miles, asking price $55K, down from $59K a few weeks ago. Still has 6 months on Porsche Certified Warranty (I would be 3rd owner)

Dealer says the transmission was replaced by them with a rebuilt one from Porsche due to a 2nd gear issue. What is the story with these transmissions? Are there any other areas I need to be concerned with on the 996tt cars?

This will replace my 1987 911 widebody targa. My wife wants something easier to drive that both of us will enjoy. Amazing how my stuff becomes her stuff after 20 years of marriage. She already has a 1997 M3 and a 2003 540I Sport in the garage for her.

Over on Rennlist the word is that 996 turbos that get tracked are getting transmissions and engines fairly regularly (caution: internet hearsay warning).
Get a good PPI.
Keep in mind that a 996 TT isn't much of a DYI car so budget service accordingly.

I don't think that the tranny will ever be a concern again IF it was rebuilt correct.

If you are not going to track the car and it was not tracked previously, I would not worry much about quality and reliablility.

But I would get older models if you are going to DYI.

Where you located? If not that one, I know of a friend's friend selling an '02 with 19k, orig. adult owner, polar silver / blue, lots of aluminum options, etc. for like ~ $60k.

PM / email me.
