gauge surround material
Anyone ever replace this material/facing? Is it leather or vinyl? 81 930. Looks like the PO hacked it up around the steering column, so it has to be replaced. Our host wants $120 for a new one. Just looking for alternatives. Thanks

You can buy used in the classified ads here or ebay. I have 81 930 and it is vinyl on mine. If you are replacing it, might as well invest in leather if you can find one.

You can buy bulk material to use at any upholstery supply house. I would use a good quality black vinyl, a heat gun, and some spray adhesive
If I'm not mistaken, to do a nice job you must remove the dashpad, which requires removing the windshield... If you pop out one of your gauges you can see where they slit the material for the gauges and glued the flaps to the insides. How bad is it? You may wait till you decide to paint the car or need a windshield and or seal. FWIW The parts around the headlight switch, ignition, and heater controls are separate and are a little more elaborate than bulk vinyl or leather FWIR
