need CV assembly help

Trying to reinstall my axles, and putting these gaskets on it just doesn't seem right. It seems as though they would be a better fit between the CV and the inside boot flange, not between the CV and the tranny. This picture is where the Pelican diagram shows it should go, but I need to double check here. For the CV/boot flange there was RLV from the PO, so that's what I was planning to do too, but this gasket seems to be a perfect fit there.

thanks for any help.

that is correct, the boot normally has one too but it's usually stuck to the boot flange quite well...

BTW, what kind of grease is that?

It looks like red wheel bearing grease? hopefully I'm wrong

Your joints will most likely protest soon if you aren't using moly grease

I've used Redline axle grease once but I seem to remember it still had some grey color from the molybdenum in it?

Those gaskets usually have a peel off backign so they stick on.

I always reuse them with no problems providing they dont split or break.

The grease I use is black.

I don't use the gaskets as they always break and I never have any leakage,, actually I seem to drop my engine enough that's I'd go broke buying gaskets LOL

+1 big time on the MOLY. grease!!

Well, it's Mobil 1 synthetic grease. Not good enough? I only packed that one CV, so not a big deal to get different grease for the other three. But, if the Mobil 1 is fine, I'll use the tub that I have.

OK, I admit I screwed up here. That's what I get for going to Pep Boys for lube. I didn't see anything that said "CV" specifically, so I figured this would be a good choice. I am very thankful you guys pointed it out before any damage was actually done.

look on the label and see if it says MOS2 anywhere, I think it's molybdenum disulphide.

If not, your better of w/ a lesser name brand that has it

pep boys should have some kinda moly...

What year is your car? The earlier cars used the gaskets. My 87 does not.

Quick question: Is my car supposed to have these? It seems like there are 2 styles of 930 CV.
I think as an 84 mine has the earlier type.

I just removed one of my CVs yesterday and I dont have any gaskets Nor do I have any of those end caps that seal in the grease for assembly
