Hello,
Does anyone out there feel that the use of a catalytic by-pass pipe may cause their P-car to fail emissions? I have a 1980 911SC and in the past have used a cat by-pass and have switched back to the original catalytic converter when the bi-annual emission test rolled around. Am I wasting my time? Can I just leave the by-pass pipe on and not worry about it? I prefer to go with the by-pass to reduce weight and for a slight performance gain. Thanks |

I can't answer your question for sure, but I'm almost certain it would fail the emmission standards without the CAT in place. But since where I live the testing is not required, I run without a CAT at all times...for the same reasons you're looking to leave it off.
One way to find out would be to leave it off and see what happens. But don't the testing persons know to look for standard equipment being present, and wouldn't they fail you just out of spite if the CAT was missing? |
