rear bumper gets very hot - does yours?

I've had my 930 a few weeks and am still getting use to it. I notice the rear bumper gets very hot to the touch - almost too hot to touch. Dash gauge shows temps in normak range for oil.

Is it normal for 930's to get hot rear bumpers?

I'm wondering if the cat is plugged (82k miles). I plan to check timing, too.
I guess the fuel mix could also be off, too (Digi WUR is on order).

I've already checked all intercooler seals and tube seals. All either good or have been replaced and lubed.

Before I go down the road of assuming this is not normal, and chasing all variables, I figured I'd ask the group.

The bumpers get hot as hell. If you can trash the CAT, I would. There is "supposed" to be a heat shield behind the bumper, you might want to ake sure it is in place. The race cars had vent holes in the bumpers, as do a number of pelicanite cars.

I would not worry about it. They do get hot, very hot - don't touch it!

My factory bumper got so hot the paint was discolored around the area of the turbo. Craigs idea works well if you dont mind the look of the holes. I like the look, I also have used heat sheeting behind my new bumper, here is my fix....

Craig's 930 on the Dyno?

Craig,

Your 930 on the dyno movie [in your signature] doesn't seem to be working any more?

Yeah, that was the old reflector that took flight some day a few months ago ;-)

Movie still works; maybe it is a firewall at your work or ?

Yup, it gets alittle hot!

My vent holes/heat remedy (I also have ThermoTech lining the inside of my rear FG bumper as well as the Carrera heat shield in front of that) it works well!

The 965 is a little different but here is my solution. Do you know what really solves the problem?
Driving the car.
With the normal airflow, the bumper stays pretty cool. When you start your car in the driveway to show your friends how cool it sounds, or you're waiting for your turn in the lineup at autocross; yes, the bumper will get hot.

Mine's 245-degrees...

I measured mine after a quick spin [5-miles] around the block. mainly stop and go and in traffic. When I got home I got out my laser-meter and shot the back of the bumper. It's highest reading was in the middle at 245-degrees.

I went ahead and shot the exhaust side of the K-27, and it read 545-degrees.

I did the 2-min. idle before shut down to keep the turbo bearings in good repair.

How does this temp[s] sound to you guys who've been around the block here?

I'm still a new-bee... By the way, I'll send a pic of the engine going back into the car...

I stopped doing that Idle deal about 20 years ago. Here's how I see it. Typically by the time my car gets in my garage, I have not been on Boost for 5-10 minutes. Therefore I see no reason to idle the car at all. If my garage opened out onto the Interstate, I might adopt a different approach.

Yes, mine has been worked on in Metairie. At Greff Motorsports. He's premium priced with quality to match.

I'll have a much bigger hand in the next rebuild. Just too new to all of this to attempt to take it on, now. I looked at your rebuild pics. Man, your car had some "gunk weight" added to it. I'd have to guess at least 10 lbs. of gunk...

Great looking finished result!
