pics wanted intercooler under lid

I have a car that looks like a 76 carrera 3.0 targa. I need to install an intercooler but don't want a turbo tail if I don't absolutely need it.
Any Ideas? I'll have the 930 engine with stock boost and am in Vegas co I don't want to cook the engine. Intercooler is going to be needed for sure! Even if I can get a bigger cooler?

There are several pictures I have seen of tail-less intercoolers but none on top of 930 CIS.
I am planning to do this same thing if/when I ever get around to mounting the duck tail I have painted and ready to go.
What I plan to do is have the intercooler protrude or flush mount in the area currently occupied by the air grill in the tail. That way all of the air is pulled through the intercooler. It will of course require a custom intercooler and some tricky plumbing.

I have a liquid to air intercooler under a narrow stock hood. Frees up lots of room.

JayG, isn't that w/a rotory?
I have thought about the use of liquid, but think the addition of the radiator is too much trouble. And no garrante of fitment w/the current cheep intercoolers available. And I'll want to add air as well= no extra space? What do you think?

Let me get to my other computer and I'll find some pictures for you.
What EXACTLY are you looking to do?
It is possible with modern turbo technology to find an efficient turbo that will not produce so much heat. Combine that with a small intercooler and you may be just fine in the desert heat.

even with our engines?
Well, I just need it under the rear deck as it would be under a duck or 76 turbo lid

I just had the B6 half bay intercooler installed and although it took some tweaking and time, it fits about 1/4 inch from the screen on the tail, right up so close it didn't require a rubber seal. It required trimming the plastic cowling that went around the stock intercooler, but I have an extra one if I want to go back and retro it to stock. I kept the AC so I could only install the half bay version.

The engine is out of the car right now with a bad main seal, but when it was in there it did a good job of keeping the intake cool....of course I didn't do any long fast runs...so the statement isn't proven under hard conditions....but it fit.

Sure, the 3LDZ was not very efficient, modern turbos can run cooler.

Here are a few I've come across that may give you some ideas. Not all are 930s but may have value for your design constraints.

The bottom one! I like that. Those look to be pulled from a production car, Which one?

Don't know anything specific about these custom coolers, just throwing out ideas for you.
Maybe the owners will stop by and fill us in.

I do know that a stock intercooler will fit under a Duck if you grind on it a little. Paul Rodelo's red 930/RSR used that approach.

So, a stock crappy intercooler would fit. What are the tricks to get that done anyone?
I'm not going to boost too high as I have a 915. So with a modern(gt30?) turbo and stock cooler, I may be able to go stock boost or slightly over that?
I hear so much bad about the stock unit, but lets not forget that porsche installed it.
Are we being a little harsh or is it really that bad?
Thanks, BA

Yes, there is a thread on a 993tt engine in a 964 with a Duck. I cannot find the pictures on it, must have stuck them in the wrong folder.

Here are a couple more. Custom intercoolers are the norm for this sort of mod.
