So far as I am aware the 911 Turbo SE as it was known in Europe was not an officially available model on the price list until late 1986 (1987 model year). In Europe it was Mansieur Ojjeh (of MacLaren TAG) that put the Slantnose on the map with his special order car in 1983. I know that other limited runs of them were made prior to that but most cars in the UK are 86-on models. I was of the belief that cars on or after that point had steel side slats whereas the Special Wishes cars made generally between 1983-1986 had fiberglass or balsa (I believe) side slats. I ended up in liaison with the factory via Porsche Cars GB (and Barry Smith of the 911 Turbo SE register at PCGB) to verify the provenance of my car. Porsche Cars GB issued a Certificate of Authenticity which must be possible in the US too. It was supplied by Samaco Bin Laden Porsche (the Jeddah main dealer) as a special order car.

The picture above was at the launch of the 997 Turbo, for which the local main dealer here wanted a 'history of 911 Turbo's on display'.

The white car in the pictures belongs to a friend of mine. It is one of just 7 Carrera 3.2 (non-turbo) factory Slantnoses that we have been able to trace.

I have one of the 7 turbo look slant nose. 10,000 miles red / red. It appears to be the on in the Dealer full color brochure. Probably gonna sell it...

930SE, Thanks so much for that info. I would love to be able to have documentation to show that my car really was a special wishes car. Porsche NA provided me with a certificate of authenticity but all it states is that my car is a 1986 Turbo Coupe. My production date was 9-24-1985. I believe my slats are fiberglass because they are sill in really good shape and straight. My oil cooler is located in the front spoiler. I know that many of the factory slants had oil coolers in the right air duct if I am not mistaken. I wonder if the special wishes cars came with the front oil-cooler only or if this was variable.

As far as I know the rt rear fender oil coolers were purely us models, aka 505s due to us bumper regs which precluded the typical se front bumper and oil cooler.

Just checked my file and notes from Barry Smith (PCGB) and according to his input, the slats on the rear wings are wood on most genuine factory cars, but the inner wheel arch panel behind the slats is fibreglass on the pre-production models and steel on the M505/506 production models '87-on. Apologies for confusion.

I originally was sent a certificate stating that my car was a 911 Turbo. However when I challenged it, someone in Germany spent a couple of days in the archives (I believe) before confirming that my car's chassis number was a special order vehicle (which I can quite believe with its tacky gold gearknob centre for the Saudi first owner!). They reissued the certificate very efficiently. Strictly speaking I think that they were all Special Wishes - it was just the introduction in 1986 of the Slantnose option on the official price list that prompted the change in designation (which I believe coincided with the M505/506 option codes starting and the change in materials for the inner wings).

It was in the Official Porsche Centre at Wilmslow in Cheshire, UK. My car is LHD having come from Saudi, the 993 Turbo in background in RHD.

Beautiful car. You must have the only (or 1 of a very few) LHD 930SE's in existence.

I agree with you on the Special Wishes vs 930SE comparison. If the Special Wishes cars were ordered with the optional 330BHP engine, they were virtually identical. The one advantage the people in the U.K. had over us yanks was the SE was an official option, where in the U.S. the Sonderwunsch cars were ordered "grey-market" through an importer and federalized on an individual basis. If those order forms and importation documents aren't present, can be very difficult and time consuming.

Thanks Dave. Production numbers are as you know a bit sketchy given that the factory seemed to have trouble keeping proper records. However so far as I know, there are circa 51 RHD Turbo SE cars made, and a further circa 200 LHD Turbo SE for RoW markets outside of the US. The dash centre consoles seemed to vary a bit from the UK models and my car should have the bog standard 300BHP engine however the engine in it has been upgraded prior to me purchasing it. I am running it with the boost at minimum (given I have no idea what mods have been done), and it has been dynoed at 335 bhp in this trim - so pretty much equivalent to a RHD UK spec Turbo SE.

I have had the debate about what is a 'Turbo SE' with others too. Most info I have implies that the Turbo S was US only...however the Turbo SE is supposedly UK only. The documentation, certificate from Porsche and log book for my car refers to it as a Turbo SE. The RoW cars like mine still had modifications from a Turbo S such as the front oil coolers (and I am sure that certain interior console options were specific to certain markets).

Sounds like you had good fortune with your pedigree. I sent for a COA, and PNA came back empty. Digging through my files, however, I came up with something even better - a note from Porsche to the PO, that the car (83 slantnose) "...was indeed converted by our Exclusive Department …”, making it one of 37 built (or 45, depending on whose numbers you believe).

At any rate, great car, and still fun to drive.
