Cornholio says "check your bungholio plug"
![]() So in the true spirit of Friday The 13th, I had a weird encounter while taking the kids to school this morning...no, it didn't involve the Hershey Highway, as my thread title might imply! Out of no where my car develops the infamous broken down 36HP VW Beetle syndrome!!!! The car idled fine, but had very little power. Lots of backfiring. All gauges read fine. A quick inspection underneath didn't reveal any OBX header cracks, or loose headers, or loose spark plug wires. An inspection on top didn't reveal any vacuum leaks or loose plug wires. Both CDI boxes appeared to be connected and firing. Immediately I'm thinking the worst...I just bought myself an expensive opportunity to try out the LN Nickies! So I nursed my 36HP Beetle home. Quickly jacked it up to get down to business...and "thar she blows, a hump like a snow hill", my problem! The threaded plug that seals the hole for the original Lambda O2 sensor had blown out!!! Keep in mind, my azz is now late for work...not a good thing in today's economy! So I dig through my pile of original parts (The Island of Misfit Porsche Parts), and discover that my original O2 sensor is still installed on my original exhaust! I quickly yank it off and viola...I have found my new plug. So ladies, let this be a lesson, check those bung holes...DON'T BE SHY! BTW, anyone know the thread specs for a proper plug?

Glad it wasn't anything major. It is always nice to have misfit parts lying around the garage.

Roughly like what I felt when the joint for the wastegate broke off.....lots of noise and zero boost ;-)
Check your bunghole, Beavis! Fartknocker......

Temporary fix you can screw a junk spark plug in the hole. Same size - M18 x 1.50.
Nasty sound isn't it.

Good to know, Brian. Funny, when I was rummaging around for a fix, I saw an old spark plug and thought to myself that those threads looked pretty darn close!
