Plastic fantastic air box missing vent port
Hello all,
I bought 1 of those plastic fantastic cone filter air boxes (used for $150), it looks OK, works OK. However, it did not have provisions for the vent hose from the oil tank from the turbo. So....I simple cut that line, up high, just under the intercooler & placed a small cone filter on the end. I figured...venting is venting...but now I wonder if the tank really needed to have the slight vacuum that the old air box port would have supplied?? Was I bad to just do what I did??? Mark |

That is exactly what I did. Has worked fine for several years now.

What about the vent line on the WUR. Does it need to be connected to the airbox or can it just be vented?

Hey Helmsy,
I knew that vent line was OK to be just open to atmosphere, I put on a little plastic "T" fitting on a super short piece hose, just so no water could possibly drip into it from the tail screen above. But again, probably not needed...just the O.C.D. thing again. Mark |

You need to run the vent off the WUR somewhere safe, so if your diaphragm splits the fuel that will jet out of it won't go all over anything hot, like your exhaust. I think Porsche vented it to the airbox so the car would bog down if the WUR went bad, or maybe that it was the safest place to send it

quack, i also got the same intake used and also the same breather problem. i purchased a black plastic marine fitting for a bilge pump waste water line($2.95) i grind down the threads except about a quarter inch, fed it from the inside of the intake, and it almost looks purpose built. the head inside the intake is thin and smooth, thus airflow going to the distributor is unaltered. i too feel there should be some vac. there, if nothing else it keeps oil vapors under control. as for the wur vent i was just using a u shaped 4 inch hose. i am going ti vent in safe direction

Actually there are no oil vapors. Mine has been this way for several years now.

How about the aftermarket drip tanks that don't have a vent? I have wondered if it should be vented but figured it was OK since most folks with aftermarket headers have this setup.

The aftermarket drip tanks can become fluid/air locked or overburdened in applications where a non-KKK/K27 turbo is used. This can be due to incorrect system modification to compensate for the different oil supply requirements of aftermarket turbos, such as using oil to cool water cooled turbochargers. The vent line can relieve cavitation and become a "stand pipe" if oil temporarily backs up in the system. The vent line can also quickly indicate a falure in a very messy way.
