double wastgate springs?
I have been reading 1.1 to 1.2 on my vdo boost gauge so I figured I had a bigger spring install.
I disassembled the wastegate and found two springs inside. Both about 6.25" in length. I want to get back to .8. Should I simply take the inner spring out and just go with the outer Spring? Maybe it was stock? |

I don't think that is stock, although I also found two springs when I took apart my wastegate to troubleshoot a similar overboost condition. You can try it with the single spring and try bench testing it by pressurizing the boost signal hose with a bicycle pump or air compressor. I found that with two springs, the wastegate wasn't opening at all...even with well over 1 bar. Thankfully I think the stock turbocharger runs out of breath at about 1.1 or 1.2 bar. With only spring, the wastegate leaked boost pressure from the valve stem and I could only get about .5 or .6 bar. New wastegate was the solution for me.

The stock wastergate uses one spring. A Tial wastegate can use one or two springs depending on what level of boost you want.

If so, this is a pic of a single 1bar stock WG spring, if you need a stock .8 bar spring...PM me, I know someone that has plenty of them.

my tial uses two, the outer spring is .7 bar and the inner spring is .3 bar technically it should yield 1 bar but translation is lost somewhere as I use that setup for 17lbs of boost, I'll take out the smaller inner diameter spring and it only runs 10lbs.

Yes, my WG is stock. Thks for the input. I have one that I bought off of ebay. It has a yellow mark on it. The seller claims it is a .8 stock spring. It measures 7.5" in height. I thought all of the .8 stock springs were 6.25"?

The spring in my OEM wastgate, which I assume is stock, measures 71mm (just under 7") in height . . .
