Question about additional oil cooler

I have removed the rear a/c condenser and have been wondering about putting an oil cooler in it's place. It's has as much air passing through it as the I/C and will also pass air through it at idle where a front mount really only sees cooling while moving. This would also eliminate the lines sets running to the front or the car. Good or bad idea?

cool

Mark,
Locating an oil cooler in that place may add to the heat load on the engine. My 930 runs kinda hot, I have been considering either a front mounted cooler(with new front valance) or has anyone used the rear fenderwell to mount an oilk cooler?

You'll heat the air going into the IC and to the engine. Front left or right fender or center seem to be the best places.

I've got 2 carrera coolers up front and it doesn't do the job. In no way can it handle a track day (500-600hp). I will finally bite the bullet and get the center mount cooler. But, perhaps there is a way to hollow out the bulk head so that a cooler could be set back- allowing air to pass behind. Air would get to the cooler by cutting some holes in the stock valance. Anyone done it?

There was a write up recently from someone who did what you propose to the bulkhead. While adding holes to the front valance would help, you really need a large opening.

If you're putting out 500 HP, you need the front oil cooler. Oil coolers in the fender wells just do not get the needed air flow at a stand still or moving.

I believe it would get the engine bay hotter acting as a heat sink and not improve cooling.

You might want to look at Fluidyne's oil coolers. I use a singe and dual pass cooler in the front two fenders with good results. I use a C2 front bumper with two vents each side which at speed keeps the oil in check. In traffic, it gets warm.

Hey Don,

Can you post some pics?

What kind of temps do you see?

Do you track the car?

thanks.
