exhaust type

Is this a useful exhaust (since I have it off) performance wise.
Anyone recognise the type?
Alan

Looks just like the one I removed from my system however mine was only one outlet.

I have since acquired a muffler from Brian (Rarly) and sounds a lot better and also the bling factor.

Sorry I can't help with the name of the manufacturer as mine was on the car when I got it.

Looks like a (75mm) 3" dual out Monty. They are made in Australia so proximity is on your side...

Thanks JP.
Are they any good as far as performance goes?
(While the aussies are our neighbours, we try to ignore them - pretend they aren't there, and maybe they will go away.)

To give you an idea of real-world comparison, I had a single outlet B&B (which is very close to what you are showing) and ran it on a dyno. I then removed it and ran a straight pipe and immediately picked up 20 hp. I then stuck on a straight through Magnaflow (I literally stuck it on the end of the straight pipe) and it kept the 20 hp. To answer your question, this muffler is restrictive and hurts performance. Ideally, you want 0 back-pressure after the turbo using a straight through design. It'll keep the turbo cooler, it'll spool faster, it'll increase HP and it sounds great too.

+1 monty...

hahaha, they're a pretty crappy baffled design, they fetch good resale if you chuck it on ebay tho as they have a lifetime warranty.

My friend replaced his monty with a Rarely L8, like I have, the spool up is about 1000rpm earlier, night and day difference...

Good Luck Ey Brew

OK guys, Don, what would a 0 back pressure unit look like - do you have anything in mind?
Thanks
Alan

Yep, I wouldn't say there's a guaranteed 20hp, of course results will vary, in my experience and Don's we've had great results from this type of straight through system.

I had an early B&B. Replaced it with a home built straight through Borla muffler exiting the passanger side and picked up 30 solid RWHP.

Monty's on the other had are suposed to be a great muffler I belive.

Oi!!!!

Only joking. I installed Brian's muffler about a year ago and only just finished installing a set of ssi headers from Brian.

I still have the old muffler and I will take some pics of it. By the sounds of it I should put it up and sell it.

Contact Brian and you won't look back. Just watch out for the shipping costs all the way down there.

Gp to your local exhaust shop and have them fab a simple straight open pipe - end of story. My local shop here in Atlanta would probably charge me about $30 to cut, weld and bend a 3" piece of pipe (keep it simple). For the track, it'll work great.

Our host carries the zork. It costs ~$50 to ship a zork to AU/NZ so cost does play in. My zork is 321 stainless and weighs 3 pounds. If this is not important to your application then definitely you will be money ahead to have something made up local.

Zork on the way via Pelican - like to support the people who support the forum.
Might save a few $s getting made here, and in long run, might not.
But the info via this forum is worth that much at least.
Thanks
Alan
