anyone using a centerforce clutch
Hello all , I was wondering how many of you are using a centerforch clutch with a light weight flywheel. while we had my motor out a few months ago I decided to put this set up in my car. I have had nothing but problems out of it ever since. My clutch pedel sticks to the floor now and when it pops up it is right at the release point so I have no slip - its just on or off. Its alot of fun in traffic when you kill your motor at a light in front of some chicks. I also now have a shudder between 2000-2800 rpm. You can mostly feel it on the hwy trying to accelerate in fourth gear or going up a hill. Back to the sticky pedel , its funny because when its cold first thing in the morning everything works perfect , smooth as butter but drive for a while 15-20 minutes or 7-8 stop lights and then it starts acting up. I have done a search on this forum for a sticking pedel and came up with possibly needing new bushings for the pedel cluster or a new cable but all was working fine before the new clutch. I am going to relpace the bushings today and see where I am at. Have any of you had similar issues with centerforce? ( by the way the first clutch they sent me was out of spec from new so we had to drop the engine and replace it before I could even drive the car so this is clutch #2) My mechanic tried to talk me into buying a stock clutch but I just had to go light weight. Thanks again for any info.....Ben

I tried a centerforce clutch. I didn't have all the problems you have, but it did wear out in about 500 miles. Go with a Kennedy Engineering PP with a stock disk.

Never used one, but have heard that they are not the best for our turbo car. I have a KEP Stage 2.

I've only heard stories like yours regarding centerforce clutches in porsches.
KEP is the best clutch other than SACHS and they are around 12# lighter than a stock sachs pressure plate so it's not recommended to use a light flywheel with one for street driving. The KEP stage 1 pressure plate with a stock sachs spring center 240mm clutch disc and stock flywheel can handle up to 600 foot pounds of torque and is still a very nice set up for the street. A KEP stage 2 PP would be better for the track. KEP pressure plates are rebuildable. http://www.kennedyeng.com/ |
