Clutch replacement - Rubber Hub vs Spring Hub?

In the process of buying parts for my winter project.

Since engine is going out, I might as well replace the clutch.
I see that there is both clutch disc with rubber and spring hub. I guess rubber hub is old technology.

What is you suggestion for a slightly modified 930 ? (SC cams, K27-7200, 1bar, rarlyl8 dual out muffler)

Should I go with Sachs, or could I go for aftermarked clutches like Borg Warner or Beck Arnley?

Do NOT use the rubber centered clutch, they fail. That's why Porsche went back to spring centers after only a short run.

Don't put a rubber centered clutch back in it. I just went through the same process and used the following parts. This setup is supposed to be good to 500ft lbs of torque.

Stock flywheel
Kennedy Engineered lightened pressure plate
Kennedy Engineered street organic spring centered clutch

+1 for the Kennedy pressure plate. The other parts are fine stock for your HP.

+2 for KEP PP. A good Sachs spring centerd disc works well in combination.

I think you can use a stock clutch assembly (with the spring centered disk) with your set up. I used it for years of track use without problems. Only when I was at 400 rwhp did I nlgo to a KEP stage 2 set up due to the clutch slipping under high load.

Who has the best prices for KEP PP ?

Or a good deal on Sachs or other recommended clutch kit.

I'm not sure if Kennedy Engineered Products utilizes any distributors for their products....maybe someone knows otherwise. I bought direct from them. Great people to deal with.

Thanks Mark, sent them an e-mail

Mark, how is the car acting with this clutch. More race lilke, or smooth as original sachs clutch?

Doea the Kennedy Pressure plate have more pressure/force/power than the Sachs pressure plate?

A930Rocket 10-02-2009 06:17 AM

Yes. You can get a stage 1 that has more or a stage 2 at the same price for even more clamping force.

No real noticeable difference vs. the stock Porsche PP. Maybe a little grabby during the first few miles of new, but it quickly settled down. Very nice.
