Billet Turbo vs K27 Turbocharger

Hi I'm in the market for a new turbo for 85' 930. Does anyone know how the BTX6465X Billet Turbo compare/contrast with the K27 Turbocharger?

Thanks

That's a huge turbo that's not in the same category as the K27.

It's in the category of an old school T66/67.

Might spool as well as a K27 but potential to make huge power. 750hp+?

Pretty hot turbo. It will be a fast spooling turbo if you have EFI to tune the fuel curve and ignition for a faster spool. That is similar to Turbonetic's GTK series but with a smaller compressor cover. You should be able to see a lot of power with that turbo, but the stock CIS won't be able to keep up with that turbo. It's bigger than a GT35R and will have more top-end potential.

As how it will compare to a K27; at 1bar this turbo would likely make 100-125whp more than a K27, assuming you have the fuel system to keep up with it.

Chris.

There is a Billet in this one. Spools as quickly or quicker as my twin turbo and never runs out of breath. A fantastic turbo.

Thanks for the feedback. Currently, I haven't made any alterations to fuel system. I have dual maxflo & fabspeed headers (et al.) So, I guess what i'm asking is which is best turbo (maker/model) in the class of k27. It's seems k27 is ridiculously priced compared to other turbos...just would like to see if there's a better more competitively priced item available - *Suggestions

thanks

The UMW K27S is a regular old K27 7200 with stock 7200 turbine and compressor wheels and center bearing housing but I don't know the inducer and exducer diameters of the wheels. That information is on turbocharger websites on the internet if you look or search for it long enough.
It has an aftermarket compressor cover machined to fit the stock 7200 compressor wheel bolted on to the backplate with a 3" diameter flared air/hose intake instead of the stock 7200 2.75" air/hose intake.

It allows a larger dialmeter and better flowing turbo air intake pipe like the 964 turbo intake pipe and lower elbow hose to be installed so turbo lag is reduced a little compared to a K27 7200 with the stock smaller diameter 930 steel air intake pipe that can not flow as much air.

The BTX6162XJ would be a better choice as it's closer size to a GT35R. It will have a slightly smaller compressor wheel and slightly bigger turbine. It should have a similar midrange potential of the GT35R with a little less top-end potential than say a Precision CEA6262 would.

Chris.

I run the Bisimoto btx 6162 XJ on my CIS 930. Mild build with headers, SC cams, big intercooler, Rarlyl8 muffler, Leask Wur and it spun the rollers at TurboKraft at 377 wheel horsepower at .9 bar. It's in San Diego now and at sea level and 50 degree cooler temperatures is making much more. Enough that my clutch which held fine at 377 is useless now. The 6162 hits hard but not as hard as my old hand ported and polished K277200. Once rolling though the power is more linear and just keeps going. For a CIS car the 6462 will be way too big.

For what's its worth, the BTX turbos are NOT ball bearing. They incorporate a ceramic journal type bearing which is low friction but hopefully will endure the 930s harsh environment. Time will tell. I've got about 750 miles on mine.

My959Kit;

Stick with the K27 BW... Better built & will outlast Garrets, Holset, Mitsubishi truck turbos...

I can rebuild and upgrade your setup for 750 HP with a Monster K27 Billet wheel. Visit my site and PM Me for details.
Later...

I'm curious as to how you balance the assembly after you dismantle it for rebuild/modification.

Thumbs up How are every completed unit checked? Read

Ronnie's930:

Once each of the wheels are weighted and balanced in the X & Y plane, the whole moving assembly (Turbine section ) is VSR dynamically checked to 100K rpm and balanced if out of range and rechecked again VSR and by laser (modern) for harmonic resonance distortions above 75,000 rpm. Pretty cool stuff, like James bond.

Thumbs up K27 Upgrade Options, Humm....

my959kit:

Here are some of the K27 upgrade options (see pix #1 below).

Why K27? More efficient compressor typically up to 78% & they feature a Dual Turbine carbon Seal on exhaust side of center section (see pix #2 below)
