Rarlyl8 Headers installed
I installed Brian's headers over the weekend and must say I am a happy man!
I installed them myself and I must confess that my mechanical skills are average at best. I just love working on my car. The installation was very straight forward, fitment was perfect. I removed the fabspeeds and bolted the new ones up in just over two hours. The only issue I ran into was trying to re-route the wastegate lines back to their original positon. Problem solved with a hack saw and flexible tubing. First impressions: The sound is quite different. Not sure how to describe it. I guess it is a bit less vulgar, muscle car sounding than it was before. Definately seems a bit quieter. I do like the sound quite a bit. I still have a nice burbel at decel and the sound at full boost is fantastic. Driving around town, I noticed right away, the car seemed so much more responsive. Maybe it was my imagination but the off boost torque seemed much improved. Boost comes on at about the same time and full boost feels like a freight train. Now I know that some of this may be a placebo effect but my gut and but dyno tells me that I have gained a significant amount of hp and tq. I am very pleased indeed. Now that the car is quiter, I went ahead and ordered the Zork tube from Brian. Really looking forward to hearing what that sounds like with these new headers. Now as far as the drone that I have been dealing with..... it is still there but it is less than before. So I am still trying to sort that out.

Top job, well done! Love the garage!
I'm going to ask what i know a lot are thinking, did you have a dyno run from before, and if so, are you going to get another done now?

I would kill for a shop like your garage!
Yes the $2195 question, do my headers perform better than the competition. Well I made a deal with Steve to trade me his Fabspeed and some cash for my headers. So the Fabspeed will go on my car (sorry car) and off to the dyno. I have sold a few sets of headers now that are replacing Fabspeed, B&B etc. but no clients have done before/after dyno testing which would be a better bias than having me do it.

how close does the turbo oil tank come to the header? it looks very close in the photos.
also, did you have to rework your turbo support bracket or does the stock one fit up without modification? video with sound would be great if you have it.....looks like a nice set up.

It is only a matter of time before somebody puts a turbo with a large compressor onto Brian's system and starts making mega top-end power because of the equal length pulse.

The aftermarket oil tank is close as the headers were designed to accommodate the stock log oil lank as well as the aftermarket cylinder style tank.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I did not ever dyno this car so unfortunately I can only go with my butt dyno. I look forward to seeing the results when Brian dyno's the Fabspeeds. Yes the oil tank is a bit too close to the headers. I plan to replace it with a stock tank. Anyone have one?

From my experience it's pretty easy to bend the short section of plain steel pipe on most of those aftermarket turbo sumps enough with a pry bar to clear the headers without cracking it or the welds to the mounting flange and sump tank.
You can remove it, clamp it in a vice and heat the pipe red hot before bending it a little if you think it might crack otherwise. |

As long as it doesn't touch the secondary pipe you should be OK. They were designed close but not touching. The stock tank will allow you to use the air vent but that hose is not easy to get to as it is burried between the turbo up-pipe, CIS down-pipe and that traffic jam of wires above cylider #1.
