Oil Hose Repair??

The fitting I circled is leaking... It leaks a drip per minute... Can the hose be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?

Or, should I just go ahead and get two new hoses with new style fittings - - maybe something I can make up myself???

Anyone know what type of shop specializes in this? Thanks in advance...

Hey mooney you may be able to make an AeroQuip braded hose it would not be too difficult, i had one made for my turbo oil feed line. They can braze those banjo fittings onto some AN fittings then insert them into a braided line. I think it was about 70 dollars to make my hose.

answer is yes to everything, just how much you wanna spend.

The scavange oil circuit is low pressure, there's no restriction other than the oil filter.
You could remove that fitting by carefully cutting it not too deep with a dremel and peeling the rest off with needle nose pliers and then replace it with a hose clamp snugged down on the hose.
The banjo fitting has a barbed nipple inside the hose and is reusable if not it's not cracked making the oil leak.
Unless the hose is in bad shape it shouldn't leak.

That sounds like a possibility... Just for clarification: the leak is on the passenger side [supply side] of the oil cooler. I just didn't have a good picture of that fitting. I've got the hose off, now - - and, will try to remove the leaky fitting.

How do I determine what size [AN-Size] this banjo fitting and hose are??? Where do I take the measurements?

Hmm well im not sure exactly the best bet would be to take the fitting and the old hose to an Aeroquip store and they would match up the hose diameters and give you what you need. Not being able to see how that banjo fitting of yours looks by itself it would be hard to tell if they can even reuse it or what size connectors it would need. You might be able to trash the originals and get new banjos that will fit you just have to make sure they have the same inner diameter so the same amount of oil will flow through as the original, Look here.......Pegasus - Banjo Adapters for Oil and Fuel Systems

Where exactly is the leak? If it is leaking where the black hose first feeds into that fitting then the fitting will need to be replaced. If it is leaking at the seam on the fitting (like it is cracked) then you may be able to fix that pretty easy.

If it is a crack in the fitting then I would take that hose to an air conditioning shop and have them fix it. They can pressure test the hose, determine where the leak is and then braze (not sure on spelling) the area to fix the leak.

Otherwise, I would go the A/N fitting route. I have used Pegasus racing and they have the Metric - A/N adapters that you may need to connect the lines but their A/N fittings are not "true A/N" fittings... they connect to the hose differently and seem to be lacking some quality. I still used them and have been happy but when I went to a race shop locally and purchased true A/N fittings I could tell the difference in a second. Here are a couple shots of what I have.

I know this is different than what you have but it may give you some ideas. I used A/N-16 lines and fittings. The curved one is a 150 degree adapter and you can see the blue metric/a-n adapters as well. The two fittings (45 angle) that feed into the oil cooler are true A/N fittings... I had to buy the angled ones to clear my fog light on the passenger side.

Ok, so I went this route... removed the fitting with dremel and replaced it with two hose clamps...

Off to the St. Patti's parade... Will run the engine and test for leaks later tonight. If all well, bumper back on and back on the road!!

Heck it looks as though you might just be able to clamp a braided hose right onto that banjo fitting.

Those hoses may have been made in europe so the size is probably metric and you match that to something that fits or the closest AN (army navy) size.
