tire sizes for 17" rims
Hi all,
I am looking for tire size recommendations for 17" rims on a 930. I am currently running 245/45/17's in front and 275/40/17's in the back. I have room for wider tires and was wondering what sizes others like in 17". Thanks. ZF |

You can always go with 315/35/17 on the rears if you have wide enough rims.

Fronts: 235/245/255 will all fit. You might have to go down to a 40-aspect ratio on the 245 & 255.
Rears: You're looking at 275 or 315. Not much else available.

Kuhmo Ectasa comes in a 285/40 and 295/35 as well as the 315/35/17.

Those sizes may be listed on the Kumho website, but they're not necessarily available or in stock (at least on the online tire shops I checked).

Are you traction challenged?
What do you use the car for that makes you think you need bigger tires? Is it for track work, for drag racing, or for looks? What dose the car weigh. What is the suspension set up? Some times a proper sport alignment can make a solid difference. Are you going to run a DOT street/race tire or a street tire? What width rims do you have and are you willing to go wider? If it is for a look that is one thing but a big tire weighs more and may not get to its ideal working temp so is not always faster. 245/275 is a good set up for a 930 on the track I have heard. |

How is a 255/315 feel for street only? Mainly talking about steering response/ effort when driving slow or in traffic. Do you feel the extra tire weight has slowed you down ? Thanks for your thoughts, these are the sizes I am most likely switching to with 17' wheels.

i couldn't get 245's on the front of my 930 with 17x9's. I went with 235's and 315's... looks awesome and tracks down the highway beautifully

drmatera: Is the 235 really stretched on a 9' wheel? Why would the 245 not fit your front well? Ive been told a 255 will fit no problem- I'm confused and would appreciate your feedback. What type of wheel is it? Offset? Thank you

the 245 45 was too tall and hit the front valence when i turned the wheel. I guess a 245 40 may have worked but my tire choice didn't have that size. The 235's look great on the 9" rim, to my amazement!

The 255/315 combo should work on any 930 without ANY rubbing at all. It all depends on the backspacing of the wheel. The fender well volume is there. Regardless of suspension settings for street or track. Great driveability and stance.

Dr: your car looks great. Is that rear wheel an 11" for the 315? Are you running any spacers at all?

varyat - Thanks, I love that pic. We had a great time at that event. Yes the rears are 17 x 11. They fit the car with no spacer on the rear at all.
Miguel - it wasn't the width so much as the tire height. For some reason they wouldn't clear at all. I couldn't turn the wheel even the slightest bit before the tire contacted the valence |

Jim, I never did contact him. I really need to do that as it would make a great poster for the garage...
