Put the Fuchs back on and I like it
I was running 17in rims w 245 and 315 Nitto NT 555. I put my Fuchs on to see what the car would feel like again w the 16in wheels w 205 and 245. It really perked the car up! The Fuchs are lighter because they are smaller, and are shorter so the gearing is better. Now I am wondering which set-up would give me the best lap times at High Plains Raceway...I may just get some new tires for the Fuchs and run the car this way. What are your thoughts???http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1280413197.jpg

red and black - - very nice!!

I definitely think the car looks better (more period correct) with the Fuchs . . . your driving observations about the differences between the two wheel sets is very interesting!

I swapped back to my Fuchs when my the tires on my 17s wore out and I was amazed at how much better the car drove. It was easier to pull away from a stop, builds boost faster, turns easier, rides better, and shifts smoother. I love the look of my 17s but I don't know if I can ever bring myself to put them back on. If I do I will defiantly go with a narrower rear tire, IMO a 315 on the rear is just too much tire unless you are making 500hp to the wheels.

The fuch's look great on there but I am partial to the FM 10's since that is what I have also. When I bought my car it had a set of the old BBS 15's with the mesh centers. When I was looking for wheels( straight after buying the car ) I wanted to keep the factory look so I was considering the Lindsey's but didn't want to wait as long as it would have taken to get them so I bought the Fikse's .Still a six week wait but oh well.If I was to do it again I would wait for the Fuch's just to have the correct look but still keep the 17 inch diameter. As far as driving comparison's I have to agree that the car has a little more gear with the 17's but that isn't a problem because it rarely see's much city driving and the back roads that we burn up I can keep the motor in the sweet spot. Here's what she looked like when I rescued her..http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1280418191.jpg
And now...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1280418239.jpg I love those fat bottom red heads!! |
Another though I had was with my Fuchs there is a little more room in the wheel wells, and I could lower the car 1/2 - 1 inch, should I?. The main reason I bought the Fikse wheels is because of the lack of tire choices for a 245/45-16. I am thinking of trying the Fuzion or the Kumho Victoracer. I am looking for a 85% Street and 15% Track day tire. My car puts about 375hp to the wheels. I think the comment about needing 500hp for the 315's is probably about right. Even under full boost I am not breaking the rears loose in a straight line with the Fuchs. Unfortunately, I have ****ty tires on the car now so I need new ones. Also my Fuchs are 8 and 9's so I would run 225 and 245. Is that better then getting 7's for the front and a 205? More tire choices with the 225 and 245 combo.

Wow - nice output 8-)
Agreed w/ all - the Fuchs just look right on there. The Fikse's look good but to me the Fuchs better suit your car. And what's not to like about all your observed benefits w/ 'em!? now, tires Noooooooooonononononono... 245's are unacceptable. I run CUMho XS 265's in the rear. They are like pencil erasers - verrrrrry grippy. Cheap! Look killer too! While 265 may still be overwhelmed by your massive output, it might do it for you if you're careful w/ yer foot. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1280426799.jpg |
you could also do a 225/255 or 225/265 combo
I believe kumo xs is available in 16/265 and toyo r888 is available in 16/255 the kumo is a great max performance tire and the toyo is a great streatable track tire... |

What size wheels would be appropriate for 255 or 265 tires?
|
255 and 265 are fine on 9" wheels but 9.5-10 is ideal
255s arnt that "pinched" even on 8" |
I have a set of Techart wheels made by OZ Racing and a set of Techart wheels made by Speedline for sale. Both sets are 18" 3 piece 40 bolt. Fronts are 8.75 or 8.5 depending on which set and the rears are 11.75 or 11" again depending on which set. Jim

I just ordered a set of Toyo T1R's in 225/50 and 245/45. After a few more sirited drives I'm sold on the Fuchs. I will now propbably sell my 17inch Fikse FM10 9's and 11's mounted and balanced w/ Nitto NT555 245/45 and 315/35. They are as pictured above with gold centers and in perfect condition.
