Worst Drone I Have Ever Heard
Today I was finishing up on a custom 934WG/Center Dump Muffler combo for a client and spied one of my still-born projects on the shelf. All the tools were out, the chop saw was set up and the custom exhaust had to come back off my car, so I thought what the hell toss this thing on and give it a go.
The "thing" was a 4.5"ID 50 state legal OBD II aftermarket CAT. I've wanted to put something together for those who need or would like the option to use a catalytic converter. My muffler systems are modular so this dude just plugs in where the muffler body would normally go. Well I got it all cobbled together and fired it up. First impression was that is is very loud. A touch louder than my Hooligan muffler. Not good. Then I took it for a ride. Holymotherofgod this thing is obnoxious! I have never in my life heard such an ear piercing drone! It actually hurt my ears from 1500prm-3000rpm. The stock muffler on the 930's with cats is heavily chambered and brother now I know why. Taming this beast is going to be a challenge. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1283053056.jpg |
:) I have never changed out so many exhaust systems on one car than my 930. As soon as I finish one and hear it I want to do another. I love the manners of my current magnaflow but i'm always striving for a more "exotic" sound.

If you want an exotic sound try my headers. The equal length primaries and secondaries make a tuned sound that is very exotic for a turbo, I just love it. I know you like to build your own stuff so you should build a set of those. The power and sound worth the effort.

Brian, trust me i've been back and forth a hundred times about ditching my B&B headers for a set of yours.
You have any audio clips? |
I have not found the time to make a video myself but there are several on YouTube. The turbo charger used will have an affect on the sound but should not mask the tuned tone. Yours is a unique application to be sure, I don't recall which turbo you currently have but my standard flange is the T3.
S. Torres swapped out his Fabspeed headers for a set of mine, I don't think he would mind if you asked his impressions of the sound and performance vs the short tube design. All my stuff is satisfaction guaranteed so if you aren't completely thrilled you can send them back. |
I had the chance to sell my B&B's to Frank but I sat on the fence to long. I'll do some you-tubing this evening

What's interesting is a zork has zero drone and IMO isn't all that loud inside the car.

I went from stock to fabspeed headers when I first bought the car and that was night and day difference. When I upgraded to Brain's headers it was quite apparent that mid range was a big improvement and as far as up top, I could not really tell but I would bet they are an improvement in both mid and top end. I installed them myself, perfect fit. As far as sound, my car sounded like a muscle car with Fabs and sounded more like a European sports car with Brians headers. Totally different sound. I am very satisfied!! BTW I have nothing against Fabspeed headers. I have their full exhaust on my 996TT. Love it and it sounds great.
