965 IC deal suggestions needed

Hello,

as lot of us, I enjoy to do part deals in the 930/Porsche community.
Till today I had only 100% perfect experiences.
I am not interested in any trouble or nerv, 930 is my fun, not my business.
When I sell something, I try to describe each part as good as possible,
I prefer to describe each bad point ( if there are) because I want the buyer to be
happy. Same I expect from a seller.

Please give me a suggestion what to do with this deal:

I have bought a 965 IC of ebay, the auction contained following picture
and description:

(for any reason I think I saw this picture before, was it a asian club thing...dunno)

A very rare and immaculate 964 turbo (965) big intercooler....
...Original and in like new condition. No leaks or dents or ...ANY trouble. Get yourselves a bargain....
...The I/C is 100% PERFECT without ANY damage...

Price was ~1K$, not expensive for a 100% perfect IC.

For any reason the seller has send me pictures from the IC short before shipping:

Truly, I don`t think ebay pictures and last pictures show the same IC.
Further, top sheet is missing, no dents and 100% perfect seems a joke
looking at latest pics.
It looks partly fresh resprayd, once it shows up here I can verify this.

I suspect, the seller expected much more for the IC and now offers
a part far beside description.

Your opinion?

Falk

I think you're right...it does not appear to be the same part as imaged in the auction. Unless the auction indicates the same (along the lines of "image for illustration purposes ONLY"), you may have recourse either through eBay buyer protection or paypal.

I feel for you. Paying money in good faith only to be taken advantage of stinks.

Let us know what happens.

Looks like the top sealer piece is missing. I would call him right away and make sure he is not holding that piece back.

I've seen those bottom pictures before in the classifieds here. Price was very cheap. If I were to guess I'd say this is not a 965 intercooler at all but rather an aftermarket copy such as B6.

Puffery? Possibly.

The shroud should have been included in my opinion unless noted so.

On the positive side, that is one of my favorite intercooler's after the Protomotive and the Kremer that was put on the Group B 930's (more for the vintage look).

They do not come up that often. It would seem that at that price it is a pretty good deal as long as it dose not have any leaks.

If you can get the sheet metal, especially the down tube, and any of the mounting brackets it starts to be a best buy I would think.

911st,
I agree, the 965 seems one of the best ICs for the 930.
+ the price was more or less cheap.

But, very probably I would have not bid on that IC if I would
have seen the real pics + the real condition description.

Imagine I would offer a set of nice wheels to you,
near perfect pictures, close to perfect description for a nice price.
In real you will receive a scratched set with missing rare center caps.
I suspect you wouldn`t invite me on a nice beer for that...

I feel your pain.

It used to be that most people that offered Porsche parts were very trust worthy.

Hope you can get things worked out.

IMHO, run away from this IC as fast as you can. I zoomed in on the photo above and a lot of crushed tubes. Not worth the 1K asking price.

I don't recall the details of the ad but those pictures were posted here in the classifieds at a real cheap price.

I was also bidding on this and you must be the one who beat me! I dont feel so bad now!!! I would tell the chap that the photos do not appear to be the same as in his advert and ask him why? He was in athens if I remember right? He seemed to have good feedback.

Easily fixed with a pair of tweezers and a little patience.

The I/C is mine, and I have taken all these pictures. I have not advertised it elsewhere nor am I a thief or a scam seller. RarelyL8 prove what you say and come back with the advert that you mention. There might me a similar sale somewhere but it is not mine.

The I/C was taken off my car. I still have the 930 engine (which btw is also for sale). The car now has a 993 engine and is a Carrera RSR replica.
The I/C worked perfectly and is 100%leak free. As Paul B (911nut) said it can be "Easily fixed with a pair of tweezers and a little patience."
I sometimes buy brand new coolant radiators and some cells are slightly bent. that doesnt mean that the radiator is bad or leaky.

The point is that the I/C sold to Falk for 720€ which is cheap, but I accept this since he is the highest bidder and there was no reserve price. My bad for this and I thought that Falk is a lucky guy... He is not happy with it though although he has still not received it.

I therefore dont have ANY PROBLEM to take it back and readvertise it. I am sure that there are many people to appreciate it, I will get more. The last one i saw for sale got 2500$, so no hard feelings

We are both happy Falk. Period

Steve

Steve, thank you for participating here, beside our tel. call + email exchange.
I for sure hope we get the things on the line.

As you hopefully have noticed, I havn`t used your name, your companys name
or the ebay auction itself. My description was anonymus as far as possible.

We do not need to discuss cheap 720€ ( ~1K$) for a 965 IC, that is not the question here.
The question I asked, do the auction pictures + auction description fit to the pictures I received from you by email.

I posted this story to get a second view on this, sometimes I tend to be picky
with the 930 parts.
The answers from the comunity leave not much space for misinterpretation.
No dents means 0 dents, 100% perfect, immaculate, like new, without ANY damage is even not confusing.
The missing top sheed....why? You know very well its important.

What I feel:
-You have described a perfect 965 IC to get a good price.
When you think a few dents+ dings are not important, thats ok.
But please do not describe a part like pefect when it is not.
Simply no leaks has nothing to do with 100% perfect.
-The auction ended by far under your expectations.

As statet above, I will try my best to find a solution with you.
The IC should arrive tomorrow, you will be the first who will
get my impression when I see this part in real.

Falk

Ok Falk,

no hard feelings. We talk tomorrow.

PS. I still have not seen any pics of my I/C advertised here as someone stated. Thats because there aren't any. Its better for some people to think what they say before they talk

I have seen that exact picture previously but did not make a note of who posted it. It is very possible that you did not post it as there are many of my pictures floating around that I didn't post as well. Anyone can lift a picture. Scammers are swarming this site just as they do others.
Important thing is that you saw this thread and were able to straighten out the problem.

I think everybody thought before they spoke. It looks like a different IC. If that is not the case than I am sure you and Falk can work everything out. It certainly has dents in it.

to keep you updated, the IC did arrive.
As promised, the seller got my first impression
and the offer to solve the situation gently.

Just to give you the idea what I won in the auction, here is the auction link, a bargain?

IMO and FWIW it's still false advertising. The ebay pictures (and the description for that matter) are not the item being sold and therefor false.

If it's a bargain and you are happy with it Falk then that's fine. If not I would be contacting the team at ebay and complain.

Just my $0.02
