993 tail lights and reflector on 930?

dumb question, im sorry, i am in the process of shooting for a rauh welt look on my 1980 930

i know some of you hate them and some love them,..but anyway

i am looking at lot of pics i have saved and it appears that some of the 930s are running 993 center reflectors and tail lights...

i am wondering if the 993 lights and center reflector are a bolt up? i know some electrical would have to be done, but otherwise a bolt on?

Unfortunately they are not even close.
I too would like a slightly wider stance. Let us know what you find.

It requires some work and fabrication. I did it but am not sure I would again. It's been a long time since I played with it and now I can't remember all that was required. The outer lights fit and mount if I recall but I fabricated some heat and stone shields that surround them as the 964 housings are plastic as opposed to metal. The center light bridge requires the use of three mounting brackets from the 964 that must be mounted on a fabricated heat shield above the turbo. You also have to cut out the mounting for the old 930 reflector that runs across the back. The guy I let cut mine over did it and I can't remember exactly how it should have been.

I got the electrical connectors from Porsche and reworked the wiring. Most important is to get the ventilation kit that cools all three lights and on the 964 is fed from the distributor. I plumbed it to the heat duct on the right side of the engine fan. This is a must. Without it and the heat shield the center light bridge will melt. I know that for a fact.

Others may remember more about the cutting required for the center bridge. It's been some time since I've seen it or an original to compare and I don't remember.

Essentially, it is not replace and plug. Same for mounting the front and rear bumpers if you want some sort of solid reenforcement there. I was younger when I did this!

haha, I am sorry too, I just think the 930 is perfect in every way, even the quirky bits, I hate seeing them changed, updated, backdated etc. I know I sound like one of those annoying purists but when I see one changed it's like part of me dies, lol.

+ 1000 ...sorry, but this type of 'upgrade' is sort of like molestation of the innocent. ....Please make it stop.

I'm good with just about all mods, as it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Rereading your post I realize you are talking about 993 lights and I do not know if they can be made to work as there are differences in the body. I did it with 964/965 parts.

As to originality I can understand how some may feel but the 930 as well as the SC era bodies are not exactly the cleanest creations from Porsche. I was creating 930 based track car from a donor that was literally saved from the bone yard and chose to go the conversion route as the 965 body is much cleaner and many trim and light pieces from the old body were kaput.

To each his own and I don't know if I would do it again. As to originality, there seems to be no concern when it comes to updating engine and/or suspensions so why is the body different? Anyone for a 1980 Blaupknt radio?

yea after looking again there is no way 993 lights would work, i realize that, but the 964 lights are pretty close,...i will be doing this over the winter and will make a thread for future reference if anyone else is interested in doing this...

i am sorry i am in the process of restoring a ONE OWNER k code 66 mustang with 42k original miles,...a 80k$ car,..easy...first thing i did was cut the car up,

i am sorry but i am not a original person what so ever,...anyone can be stock, it takes a set to build the car everyone "wants to be, but no one wants to ruin"....i am not trying to sound like a dick, but as stated before, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, each owner should be able to build his or her car they way they see it...

Easy on the mustang comments...I have a love affair with them as well. I do agree with you though, I hate seeing 930's cut up. now if your bringing one back from a premature death, thats another story...
