Would this work for 'limp home' or valet mode

If the turbo goes it might still smoke too much if I don't reroute or block the oil line. Just had some creative time at the garage : ) |
Looks like a low compression version of a 911 engine now...sort of. Can't see why it wouldn't work. Just keep the extra parts in the glove compartment for those emergencies.
Man, you've got stuff re-positioned all over that motor....like the AAV, WUR, even the MSD sitting on the engine (might overheat in that position). |
MSD has been there for many yrs in Arizona weather so I guess it can take it. The AAV is going out (early hand throttle) and the WUR I just placed there so it's more accessible when I install my custom IC to be used with a ductail or carrera lid. I think I need to get rid of the compressor for them to fit though at least the carrera plain lid interferes with the compressor
No need to keep extra parts at the glovebox as those pipes/hoses are from the custom kit. This would definately help with joyrides if I need to leave the car in a bodyshop or detailer that I don't trust. |
If preventing joy rides is your main concern, then probably just as simple and maybe less time consuming would be to remove the WG and install the softest spring you can find (.3 bar maybe) or perhaps leave the spring out alltogether so the turbo can't build any boost. The joyrider would simply not be impressed.
I'm all for better accessibility of the WUR vs. it's stock location. And your MSD location....I guess it's a testament to a quality product, but I would think that eventually it may suffer a shorter lifespan....but maybe not, apparently. |
So where have others installed it?
The experiment came from the idea of turbo failure somewhere far away from civilization. |

For "valet mode" I'd look for a way to limit engine RPM.
I've got the electromotive ignition and if I were leaving the car in un-trusted hands, I can limit RPM to something very low and boring...like 1500:D |
That might be too low. Imagine if they took it for a spirited drive and try to WOT in a tight spot in a road with a lot of traffic.
Not sure if my MSD 6AL has those pill options (supposedly resistors) too. What size would I need for say 3000rpms? |
