valve adjustment
So adjusted my valves on my last engine drop. First time, followed the book. They were tight as hell before I adjusted them (couldn't get a guage in them and REALLY cranked down).. So now my buddy tells me they are a little loud. Apparently a common rookie mistake is not cranking them down far enough.. So my question is if they are a little loose how much damage will you do running them for a little bit? The engine is running GREAT. I'm not even sure they are out of spec but he's got me thinking....

What do you mean a little loose? Are you referring to a lock nut or valve clearance? That two different issues. A loose lock nut needs to be addressed asap. Whereas a loose valve clearance would be noisy and lose some HP.

Mike, sorry for the confusion I am refering to the valve clearance. Lock nuts are all snug.
So no harm other than a little loss of power running it that way for a while ?

Todd,
Tight clearances will do damage (burned valves). Loose clearances, not so much (within reason, of course). They would need to be pretty far off for you to notice a power difference IMHO.
