New 930 Owner
Hi,
I purchased my 1988 930 with 83K last month locally. Car is stock except for aftermarket Sony radio. I had a PPI done and after reading all the prior comments there are still no guarantees. Car had a major service ($11K) done 1/2010 after sitting for 4 years. Car has records going back to 1997. Car drives and handles great. No engine leak but had a few drops from the tranny. The paint job is a 10....from 10ft away she looks pretty good. No accidents. This is my 1st Porsche. I joined Pelican last year as another source for buying a 911. I spent countless hours reading most the forums posting. What an eye opening and humble experience? Okay! Technically this my 2nd porsche. I bought a 914-4 3 weeks earlier. One owner 1976 914 Silver with 76K miles. Car sat in garage for 17 years. Car has no rust and the interior is perfect except for the cloud of dust on it. I thought this would help pass the time away while I continued my search and learn more about Porsche's. To make a long story even longer.....I am excited to join the 930 club. My mechanical skills are limited but I am eager to learn.....I come from the BMW world. I still own 1995 M3 and 1997 540I 6spd. Sure got long winded for my 1st post....

Welcome to the Porsche family. I, too, came from the BMW world: E30 M3, E34 M5, 635 track cars, Dinan E39 540...

You will resist at first but then soon you will be seeking more pedal response. Nice car!

Thanks for the kind words! You guys are spot on in regard to Turbo lag. I just stayed in 3rd gear a lot longer to get the full effect. I would like to keep car stock as much as possible but you're right about the that slippery slope. I find myself reading all the comments on aftermarket exhaust systems.
I have put about 350 miles on her since purchase. I am not too thrill about the tires (Fuzion) on her even though they are relatively new. I have never heard of the tires until I Google them. Saw a few less than stellar comments. Learned a long time ago...you really need some tires that inspire confidence. Perhaps, its all in my mind. Well, thanks again for your ears and looking to tame the beast if that's ever possible....Every night I just have to take a peek at her before heading to bed. Looking at a 930 at about 45 degrees and catching just enough of her tail over those big hips just does for me... |

Welcome and congrats! Awesome color, one of my faves!
Funny on the tires, your and another here who recently scored their 930 - and in a very similar color at that - both got 'em w/ Fuzions. And me too 4yrs ago. They SUCK. Burn the snot out of 'em and slap some proper tires on there. Well suck is prob an exaggeration - for the $ they corner well and communicate "OK". Not much warning before they give, the fronts lock up horrendously, and they wear like crap. Other than that they're fine 8-). Don't resist the urge to exhaust that thang - ^Brian here's^, specifically. Hear one in person and your checkbook is defenseless. You'll be left wondering why yours is so quiet when this whole world of awesomeness is before you to BEHOLD. Nike! Enjoy it - get to know it, little by little. Welcome aboard the crazy train, fine bunch of loons we're blessed with here... I'd be *dead* w/o all you sumbishes... |

And problem may not be tires but instead that your shocks and bushings are all shot. Someone put fuzions on there and left it at stock height, it means they probably didn't maintain the suspension.

Thanks for the input! Those items passed during PPI. I was just a little surprised by the tires. She handles great...just been giving her a healthy dose of respect. I guess I got spoiled by my M3 (E36). It's almost a no brainer to drive especially with that silky smooth 5spd and 50/50 balance. |

*DING!*
and ^that^, right ^there^ sums it allllllllll up! If I wanted no brainer I'd drive a Buick, thanks 8-) If a 930's in your blood (it either is, or it isn't - hey I commute in a TR3... primitive / elemental / involving - modus opperendi)... you'll soon come to appreciate (and pine for) the nuance and experience. _It_, is like none other. An infectious disease for which the only cure is a few pulls off the boostbong, vehicular heroine tapped into thy psyche... ahhhhhhh HIT ME! If you want to keep the Fuchs (I do), once you spank the Fuzions take a look @ the CUMho Ecsta XS's and go 225F / 265R... *really* beefs out the look, provides better braking footprint, ubersticky cornering, and more defense against roasting off ze rears... cheap, to boot! How 'bout some more pics? Don't see that color much, I really dig it... |

Sweet car...if it's been sitting for 4 years, I'd replace all fluids...too special a car not to be spoiled mechanically.
5-W 40 Syntec Castrol seemed to smooth my engine(and locally a Porsche approved oil), especially at idle. Factory oil filters are a must. Swepco gear oil great for tranny. Not cheap, but it's a 930, not a Fiesta. Took me about 6 months to get used to my car, so if this is all new to you, I recommend go smooth and moderate, until experience and a little time behind the wheel of this supercar let you discover, it's true potential.

Paul, you da' man, braving the weather in your TR3. Obviously British-bitten in some past part of your life. Same here....still have my '60 MGA (not too awfully different than a TR)...but I'm more of a fair weather driver with it. And you forgot to mention the low powered one-off tractor engines the Brits stuffed in them.
