Advise on Front tires, will they fit?

Hi Guys,

Hope someone here has experience on this

I bought a set of 17" Lindsey Fuchs this summer. 9" wide in front and 11" wide in back. I'm very happy with these

I bought 245/45-17 tires for the fronts, regular street tires (Vredestein Ultrac Senessta - Something like that), and 315/35-17 for the rears.

Clearance is no problem on the rears. In front it's rather tight... I guss I have 1/4 - 1/2 inch space on the inside, depending on how much I steer.

Now to the question. I'm planning on buying track tires. I'd like to go with TOYO R888 tires. I've found a good price on 255/40-17 for the front ones. Question is... Are they too big!?

I know that track tires are a little wider compared to street ones. According to spec they are 10.4" wide. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Toyo&tireModel=Proxes+R888&partnum=54WR7R888

Hope someone can help

Thx!

I've never run the Toyos, so I can't give you an answer. But even if the Toyos rub, won't it be at full lock, such as with parking lot maneuvers? It's not likely they'll rub at steering angles you'll be using on any track, correct?

Sounds about right Noah. Only other thing I saw when I checked inside the fenders was that the tire is approx 1/4 inch from the front shocks. Guess that is were I need to be worried if they rub... However, I guess some folks here have tried 275's in front as well?

May be worth buying the set of Tires as the price is good at the moment. They are way more expensive in Europe compared to the US. And ordering 4 tires to Sweden from the US would probably cost loads of money to ship...

Cheers

I think 255 is about the widest I've heard people run on our cars. For the front, at least. I can't recall anyone running 275s on stock fenders/suspension.

Your car looks awesome with the Lindsey Fuchs Toby.
Do you have a sideview?

I run nitto nt01 in 255-17 upfront on 9" rims, and the car is really low. No rub except maybe full lock in parking lot situations. I think craig from rennstore runs 275's in the front.

+1 on how awesome your car looks. Nice setup.

If tire rubs or not is also depending on offset. I have OZ-Racing's 9x17 with offset 31mm and my Toyo R888 235/45-17 did not fit. Had to add spacers at steering rack to limit movement.

The Yokohama A048 225/45-17 I had before fitted without spacers

Thumbs up More Pics

Thanks for the feedback Guys

Garen: OK, I "may" be safe then, as I won't have full lock on the track I checked the spec on the Nitto tires and the section width on them is: 10.35 inches. Only 0.05 inch diff, but I guess the 10.4 inch section width on the Toyo's will be a very tight fit :-P

Here are some more pics:

Good looking car!

I run 255 & 315 x 17s on Lindseys - all good. It all depends on wheels backspacing and spacers.

Thanks Miguel, I guess we are running the same offsets? I have no spacers in front on my 930.

xbmwguy: Hehe, Yours looks very nice on your avatar. Can you please post some pics?

I run 255 and 315's too and would like to add a comment on the R888 tire.
My experience with them, bought them used them for a weekend and tossed them returning to BFGR1's and NT-01's and Hoosier for the rain.

None of my track buddies have had much joy with R888's.

Might be a Canadian thing,
Dave

Thanks Dave,

Did you have any Rubbing issues in front with the 255 R888's?

Cheers

No more than with other 255's I just could not get the tires to stick. Just some rubbing on the inner at full steering lock, no rubbing while driving. My fenders have been rolled and I have lots of camber which gives more clearance at the top of the tire.

Dave
