SSI or Headers?
Thinking of replacing the heat exchangers. I am not to familiar with the difference between SSI exchangers and headers.
Thanks for filling me in! Erik |

Is this for a turbo setup?
If so, go with proper 930 turbo headers. SSI's aren't designed for forced induction. Sure, they can be made to work, but wouldn't be optimal for a turbo setup. Last edited by 911TT33; 10-22-2011 at 08:52 PM.. |

No they are just for a 911 SC 3.0 1978. I do understand you will lose heat with headers. I am just wondering if it is for performance gain, a better sound or both. I will be using it for on road use, no track.

Try posting your question on the 911 tech forum. This is the turbo forum.
Your gains will be minimal on a NA motor. More noise and minimal gains than anything else. |

Actually, M&K makes a turbo set-up using SSIs.
Switching to SSIs and an M&K muffler on a stock SC motor offers more of a weight advantage than a power advantage.

SSI manufactures systems for both 911 and 930. The principal is the same as both engines benefit from equal length primaries on the low end and mid range.
Another big advantage is blow you out of the cockpit heat. SSI makes the only exchangers accepted for concourse use. The SSI system for 930 does not come with a Y-assembly so Ben and I designed and manufactured one. Several folks here have them installed. We did this set for a fellow in CA. ![]() The SSI system for the 911SC coupled with an M&K muffler is a real nice bump in torque over stock. Our host carries SSI, M&K and RarlyL8 products. This set was done for a local fellow on an RS clone. ![]()
