A/C line replacement
one of the A/C lines on the front of the car has cracked. my car is a 84, i am thinking of just pulling all of them off and replacing as the refrigerant is way expensive. the one that is leaking is where you jack the car up in the front so i know its not just a coincidence it cracked. are these hoses typically as 20 year replacement from anyones experience or do they last longer. any thoughts are appreciated. oh and any benefit of using the OEM lines over just going down and having new ones made here locally?

It's too bad you told me to keep my fingers off the keyboard. Otherwise, I would have told you I have a whole set of 930 lines in my garage... but I did not type this with my fingers (what do you think I used).
Anyway, don't use the 930 lines from me or anyone else. Get some barrier hoses made so the really expensive R-12 does not leak out and cost you $200 per year recurring in material costs. Not to mention the cost of hooking it up to the AC cycling machine.

Wow R12 really has jumped in prices since it getting the axe from use years back.
![]() Guess I'm glad I live in upstate NY with lots of backroads and minimal traffic jams in the hot summer months. Blasting down the roads windows down keeps me cool, plus the sound of the open WG through the bridges and tunnels keeps the blood flowing nice

I just replaced all the hoses on my '89 Turbo like Turtle says with barrier hoses made at a local shop using the old hoses as samples.

So the original hoses were prone to leak?

The original hoses were "designed" to leak. They are non-barrier hoses. They allow the tiny molecules to escape through the hose. Not the fittings, the actual rubber hose. I have never understood (nor read) why Porsche did this... but they did. And therefore we pay... once per year, maybe once every two years, but either way, they need a recharge because of the hoses.

never knew that! i will look at the hoses tonight and see if i want to tackle replacing all of them, seems like the only tough one is the one that disappears behind the engine.
