red ones have a diode and black ones do not after looking at my car, i have all black ones. maybe replaced by previous owner? should i replace with correct red ones? |

If you had all black ones, your car would not shut off with the over boost sensor and the CIS throttle plate. Are you sure you have ALL black ones? How about the one in the back by the engine

Yes sir. Pull that plastic cover off and you should see a relay. Actually, yours may be of the "yellow" variety. That's okay too because it has the built in diode.
By the way... on a funny note, today I looked at an '89 and every single relay was red. Apparently the factory just gave up in '89 and decided to make them all red. Changing a black to red is no big deal. Changing a red to black (if you need the diode in that particular circuit) is bad mojo. I don't know why I buy any spares in black... oh yeah, they are cheaper. ![]()
