Moving the oil tank to the trunk

I have been thinking about this for a while and have seen a few builds with the oil tank up front. Anyone have the details on doing this? Moving 30+ Lbs off the tail and into the nose would help weight distribution and seeing as I am already running a front oil cooler, the lines are there.

I am looking for info on how to run the lines so that I still have the factory oil thermostat etc.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Brendon

Lots of threads on the 911 tecnical forum. From what I gathered on those posts I desided to leave it alone even though I too have an front mount OC.

The weight difference is much smaller than you think as the oil is mostly in the engine when the engine is running. If you already have a suitable tank just go for it. IIRC you need some breather hose that goes in the roof sill but I'm not sure if you need that in all cases?

Thanks, I'll go over to the 911 side and do some searching.

I would think that most of the oil is NOT in the engine while it's running. I was under the impression that Porsche uses a large than needed scavenging system to keep most of the oil out of the engine once it's passed through the critical lubrication points to reduce drag on the rotating mass. I would think in a 12+ qt system that at least 8qt would be in the tank at one time. Giving the weight of 7lb per gallon and the weight of the tank filter and lines, I would assume you'd be able to move a good 30+ lb difference from corner to corner.

Just browsed through, great info, but some of their pricing is a bit high for my budget...
