Cylinder to Head leak?
I just went through my usual winterizing routine with my son teaching him how to do a compression check and leak down. Compression is good at 170 to 180 in all cylinders and leak down is 1 to 3%. However, while I do have some anoying oil leaks, these look like leakage at the heads. What do you think?
Cylinder 1 compression 173, leakdown 1% ![]() Cylinder 6 compression 170, leakdown 2% ![]() Compared with cylinder 4 compression 172, leakdown 2%

You can try retorqueing the head studs during next valve adjustment. Some engine cleaner spray and a garden hose will remove it temporily if you like boost.

Are you certain there isn't an oil leak coming from above and running down the air deflectors? I thought the same with my new rebuild, but ended up being the thermostat breather, oring, and temp sender...and some coming from breather tube vented seperately - all from above.

It looks more like combustion byproducts but difficult to tell. I will most likely pull the engine anyway so I'll get a better look, I've been toying with decreasing the compression ratio to allow more boost and I have a 3.2 crank and rods and a 930 oil pump looking for an excuse to go in the engine.
I have all steel studs and did check the torque at last valve adjustment which was around May/June of 2011 and everything seemed fine.
