liquid/fluid sound on startup?
This may be something obvious, but what is the flowing liquid sound I can hear from the engine bay (whilst sitting inside the car) on startup only for the 1st 10 seconds or so?
Fuel flowing into the engine components? Freon for the A/C? Just a weird gurgling sound that has always made me curious Thanks Ben -87 930

You have one of the rare water cooled 930's. Not too many were made. Your intercooler doubles as a raditator, affording water-to-air cooling of the air charge as well as cooling the motor

I have a 1978 930 that does that. Also have heard it on others I have owned over the years. Think it is the oil filling up the cooler lines. Something to do with the oil thermostat allowing oil to drain from the system in some way. Never had anything bad happen as a result ( so far so good ).

- too funny Mark!
![]() - Sounds more viscous than oil, but posible I guess- never heard this sound on my 86 Carrera though? Maybe slightly different system? - Seems funny how the longer you own/drive a car the more noises you hear! Of course once the waste gate opens there is only one thing you can hear!

Good start up oil pressure ( 60+ psi ) combined with higher start up RPM with the turbo to fill up partially drained lines after hot ( thermostat stays open for a period of time before cooling with no oil pressure from the motor being shut off ) has always seemed to be the most likely culprit.

You sure it's coming from the bay and not the boot? I've always thought the fuel returning back to the tank was the culprit. Low control pressure and open loop FV causing a steady flow back to the tank.

For mine, I hear it along the right side of the car.
