Too Cold Too Drive???.....Hmm..
Drove the car this weekend..Temps were in the teens..but windchill maybe single digits...
I had the car overnight-outside--Sunny in the morning..BUT in the teens..Took approx. 4-5 trys to turn it over... ....After some spurts of hwy driving approx--30-40min..Nice cruzin..No flooring..My temp. guage never reached the 1st line..Not fully warmed ...After one little top end run the car did stutter--hit a brick wall..at 5000rmps...Not GOOD...Did not really get on it due to clutch issue/slip..(Want to make home in one piece)..Driving home..maybe another 30min..of dirving and keeping the rpms up 3500rmps....Finally i see temp guage meet the 1st white line..Car felt good approx.10mins. from home.. Once shut down in my heated garage..CHKED-engine..Touched INTERCOOLER...Well it was ICE-COLD--Not even a hint of heat...Just like it was never started.. Car is going in the shop this week. KEP Clutch comming in Wednesday.. On a side note I installed a front oil cooler-a couple years ago.. I guess it makes a BIG difference.. Temps always came to temperature before w/out the front oil cooler..No matter how cold. Walt Last edited by wjfk32; 01-17-2012 at 09:28 AM.. |

Colder temps and denser air made boost go higher and probably triggered the overboost sensor at 5000 rpms.
In S. Florida 95 degree heat using 20w-50 oil my oil temp stays below the first white line all summer long no matter how hard I drive it with the long B&B center mount oil cooler in a DP 935 front air dam. |

No, and I should have said the car has to be moving to keep air flowing through the center mount oil cooler. If stuck standing still in traffic oil temp will raise a little above the first white line but once moving again it quickly drops back down below it.
A buddy of mine has a similar setup and he still has the origonal fender mount oil cooler with fan in series with a big center mount cooler. He removed the rear wiper and uses it's dashboard switch to manually control the fender mount cooler fan if it's needed. |

You need to adjust the thermostat to open at a higher temperature. You do have a thermostat for the front cooler lines, right?

In the summer....95 to 100 low humidity degrees outside...I see temps no higher than about 1/3 of the way up between the first and second lines on the gauge. That's with the right-front oil cooler (not sure if my fan works for it...have never heard it turn on nor checked it).
I took her out a couple weeks before Thanksgiving at 22 degrees. Ran like a bat outa hell, and I don't think the temperature ever came close to the first line.

No thermostat on the front cooler...
Just have to drive faster. ![]() Driving when the temps in the teens---takes the car another level of OMG. ![]() Walt Last edited by wjfk32; 01-17-2012 at 12:51 PM.. |

I wouldn't worry about this. Just drive it.
..and the thermostat is in the right rear wheel well. |

930s love cold temps, however in really cold temps <20* I block the front valance cooler leaving only the fender OEM one - it works for me.

If you have the thermostat set to allow flow to the front cooler at 180 degrees then everything should be fine. You need a thermostat there, for one thing to prevent the oil cooler rupturing from cold oil pressure, and for another to make the car warm up quicker. I think the thermostat is adjustable with a scew acting on a spring preload.
