WTB Cold Air Intake

Hello
Just wondering if someone has a used(in good condition) Airetek/Evo system for sale. I'm not looking or hoping for hp gains just trying to make it easier to access the rear of the engine.

pm or email me: scoobyryde@yahoo.com

thanks

Here's an option you may consider: Find a used airbox, hack off the end and weld (braze) on a lip to accept a cone filter. It will accomplish the same thing as the aftermarket setups you've described.
That's what I did, and if I recall it cost me all of $40 for a used airbox and $20 or so for the filter. I love innovation and making things, but unfortunately I'm a really crappy welder. However, it works and serves the purpose....plus I still have my stock box safely stored away.

Or buy one of the K&N filters that fit perfectly right on top of the CIS air flow meter.
They flow alot more air than any convoluted CIS system with 32mm intake ports ever will and only cost about $40.

True story: 3.6T engine on the dyno at MODE, installed that plastic airbox, lost HP.

That plastic airbox was just as roto-molded plastic version of what Mark Houghton described: a 930 filter housing modded for a cone filter on the end. That was initially done to make room for two Electromotive twin plug coil packs mounted on the 930 manifold. It had no

JFairman's filter is easy, fits great.

Other on-the-sensor-housing filter option:

FWIW -- no good, too small filter area:

Skip the plastic Fabspeed one, too.

There's a thread on that subject somewhere on this forum, that even has the PN# for that said round element...let your finger do the walking.

Someday I'll probably trash my original airbox modification in favor of the simplifed direct bolt on filter that you're all talking about. At the time I was looking to get more filter surface area while keeping the two breather pipe connections, thus hacking off the end of the stock housing made sense. I also wasn't sure if the stock dimensions of the box weren't critical for funnelling the air flow into the metering arm...without which setting up some sort of funky metering plate oscillations? I've since learned that all that hardware isn't necessary.

I got mine from this internet store. StreetSideAuto - Auto Parts, Car Parts, Truck Accessories, Truck Parts, Car Accessories and Performance Parts

$36 and it comes with a nice hose clamp.
You can cut a little V out of the lower rubber edge to make a groove for the CO adjustment post using a single edge razor blade. Cut the rubber cleanly next to the pleated screen but don't cut into it so it isn't affected.

I bought one of the housings shown in the OP post from Pelican about four years ago and was dissapointed in the quality of the piece considering the crazy high price. I had to open-up the hole that mounts to the metering housing as it was too small to fit, the through bolt holes were not even close and I had to oval them, and the top of the thing caves in when you even lightly tighten the bolts down (and thus looks like shat) . . . I even cut some round, carbon fiber plates to fit on top to try and minimize the "cave in" . . . hard to believe the thing is around $400.00 new (and don't know what I was thinking when I bought it)!

I've got what you are looking or but just ordered JFairman's K&N solution. I'd suggest you do the same. If you're dead set on the original setup le m know.

If you loosen the 2 rear motor mount bolts and lower the back of the motor down a few inches with a floor jack it's easy to slide it on without bending or squishing it.
The stock metal and rubber air cleaner gasket should be removed first so it slides on farther.

Streetside says they'll price match and they have alot of the stuff Summit or Jegs carry like MSD and Magnaflow mufflers.

I also bought one of the K&N filters recently and will mount it soon (lowering the engine as suggested, as I do not want the pleasts to get bent and wrinkled like some I have seen in pics posted in other threads) . . . will then route the breather hoses and such under and to the back of the car to try and eliminate the fumes that come with venting them into the engine bay . . .

My car came with one of these and they do leave a lot to be desired. I have a B&b long neck intercooler with the two senders mounted on the front (towards front of car) and the boost gauge sender wore a hole in it. I like the idea but the execution is piss poor for the amount of dough they want for these things.

Piss poor execution is a great assessment of it! If nothing else, the area above the metering plate needs to be made more rigid so it doesn't bow-in and look like a cheap piece of **** when installed!

Finally ended up with one(from jcc911..thanks). I don't understand why they wouldn't have a connection for the hose that comes from the wur. The stock box has a connection also the stock has a strainer on one of the hose connection. With a liitle more thought they would have hit the nail on the head with this air box..oh well I guess it was up to me to modify the box/intake..

You're still going to have it warp where the filter clamps on, and especially above the airflow sensor plate when you tighten the 2 screws.
No WUR port, not screen, no venturi above sensor plate, no reinforcing... C'mon, what do you want from $40 of roto-molded plastic?

I'm not seeing any warp..it installed just fine. I added a wur port(see my pic above..the brass part) ran the car.... So far so good. Had one as well in my 3.6 turbo never saw a problem but I will keep an eye on it.
