wheel offset vs spacer question
 

So i'm kicking around the difference between large spacers on wheels vs new wheels with deep offset..
I'm converting the tracdog to a 934 and don't really want to at this point spend a few thousand dollars on wheels, so custom spacers would save a ton of money.
Ultimately is there significantly more load on the bearings ?
Thoughts?

Well, I'll try and kick your thread along.
What spacers are you currently running? as far as I can deduce, you do put more loading on the studs and hub and I think those forces multiply quite quickly. I am running 25 mm rear - which I think is stock? Nothing on front. I have reduced the 25 mm to 10 mm to accomodate more rubber. If you plan putting more rubber on, you may end up removing the spacers too.

Alan, Spacers will be much larger than that. as I'm adding 934 flares.. These will be the kind that bolt on to the wheel studs and have their own studs for the wheels to bolt on . So i'm thinking 4 inch spacers..

I think I still have a set of 3.75" adapters. They were used on a Carrera that had a widebody conversion running 964 3.6 turbo rims.

Obviously, the vertical load on the bearing is always equal to the corner weight of the car, but the side torque or moment on the bearing is what changes as the tyre patch moves further out and away from the bearing.
Small changes in dimension A can have a big effect on this.

If the tyre patch is in the same place relative to the bearing, the loads on the bearing are the same for deep wheels and shallow wheels with spacers.

I know you guys may get this, but there are many who don't. This might help.

Todd - I have a set of 9 & 11 x 17 3 piece Fuchs conversions that were specifically made for a 934 conversion. I'm leaving my 930 with stock flares and thus the wheels have too much offset to the outside and thus won't fit. At this point I'd rather sell and startover than redo these if there's someone that can use them as is. Lemme know if interested & I'll send photos & further details.

3 piece 18" wheels
 

I have several sets of 3 piece 18" wheels available for special custom builds. Currently I have a set of RH 3.6 Turbo centers, Speedline Alessio, and Speedline Daytona that could be built. I have been saving a pair of the largest outer rims I have for a very special set 5.25" and also a pair of 2.75" for the front outer lip.
