Recaro

I was watching these, since they were listed incorrectly, I thought they might go for less. They sold for $3750. Makes me feel better about the ones in my storeroom!

I was watching those...plus add $200 to ship and you have $4000 seats...ouch, terribly overpriced for a set of seats with electrical tape to patch the worn out leather.

I have to ask as someone that just does not know: Are Recaro's that special? Are they that well made to be worth the cost? I see the same thing with the R's for older Mercedes Benz. With all the other manufacturers out there, I have to believe there are comparable seats for less.

Unless these have a "vintage" appeal, then all reason goes out the window.

Unfortunately those seats have been long out of production. Other than a rip which can probably easily repaired, these went for market value. Back in the day these were prohibitively expensive. The ones on eBay were really complete. IMO these went for a fair price for rareness and condition.

eBay does have another set(in saddle color) for sale in excellent condition for $5k...is it worth it? Maybe to the right buyer who always wanted top of the line Recaro vintage seats.

I wonder what in year those black ones were made that started this post? I have a set ( pictured ) that came in my 1977 930 that are different as they have manual adjustments vs electric except for the recliner ( earlier) as full electric in the regular Porsche seats seem to be more like the later 80s seats. Any way to tell by looking at them? Also if they are worth that kind of money I would prefer a set of standard 930 sport seats from that year. Mine seem to be the same as the saddle color ones now on ebay for $5K. Mine also have the Blaupunkt speaker upgrade in the headrests.

The ones sold are the CSE. I believe made in the late 80's. Most of us (Bryan too?) have the C classics that have less controls & a slightly different design. But.... I found after some research that a set I have stashed away is a set of CSE's over here & a set of C's in LA. I would post pictures but I am on my Mac, pics are on my PC.
Merlin the person who sold them, had other listings for furniture, nothing else auto. I don't think they knew what they had, but someone did!

Can't be much worse than the full electric seats i just replaced in my 1989. They are really heavy compared to the not so much electric sport seat i swapped with. The earlier Recaro seats with less electric controls weigh less than the later fully electric ones. Still heavier, most likely, than the stock early mechanically adjustable 930 sport seats.

They are heavy! I took mine out and replaced them with manual Recaros and they are night and day. With rails, I think the Classic C was at least 50 lbs each. The Recaros I replaced them with are probably 20 lbs with rails.

bloody hell, wouldn't surprise me! i've been eyeing off the electric seats in the 964 and wondering if i could put them in the shed and get something lighter, the manual recaro's sound like a great solution.

As those Miami Vice style phat seats are a sort of classics of that period, both in Mercs and Porsches as an aftermarket premium comfort.
Of course you all do know the history of Recaro factory as all original Porsche seats has been manufactured by Recaro... Reuter (Reuter Carosserie GmbH: an early fabricator of Porsche car bodies and chassis for 356) was asked by his friend Ferdinand P to make also seats for him as a side kick of their other production , as there wasn't too good ones available. so Re Caro was founded.
Today most of the bus / aircraft / train / car etc. seats are fabricated by Recaro even if that name is not always mentioned.
There is also quite parallel story of the relation of Mr. Behr and Fierdinand, when it comes to coolers...
Reuter, Behr, Ferdinand etc. they are all childhood friends from the same village...

You are so right, when sourcing suppliers Porsche went to people with whom he had relationships but were already doing well in their own right. Today the Recaro Keiper group is no longer an independent small specialty seat company, it is now under the umbrella of the interior Johnson Controls. You can now find Recaro products in most domestic cars and find that they share some similarities with their exotic counter parts. See link below.

Petry is totally correct. Early P-cars came out of the box with them w/o much advertising.
Recaro even makes baby car seats nowadays, as well as some stadiums have them... not so special any longer.
Considering the weight and cost - no thanks!

Petri is right about the porsche recaro connection.
A funny thing is recaro was really named Reutter Karrosserie. How the C came about, I don't know.
