new muffler
so i am going to replace my muffler after seeing that cut open standard porsche muffler. its amazing that these things can breathe with all that baffling.
my car is a 84 euro 930. fresh rebuild. sc cams, K27 turbo, euro fuel head, euro fuel lines and rebuilt WUR all thanks to brian @ rarely l8(the fuel system part). I went over to Turbo Kraft this week and talked to Chris. great guy. very knowledgable and full of information. I am going to have him Dyno the car in the next few weeks and at the same time ensure everything is "dialed in". I have talked to Brian at rarely L8 several times about his mufflers and i know they are very nice. I am looking for any and all input on what type of Muffler to go with. Options i have narrowed it down to are, BRian @ rarely L8 street muffler Turbo KRaft is now using a Magna flow that they custom make to the car. A monty, i just like the sound of those. all are very similar in price, quality seems to be similar as well. I want to stick with a single out unless i can be convinced that Duals are the way to go. I dont want a terribly loud muffler. just something that will improve performance. look appropriate and sound good. other thing i was thinking about doing is a adding a 1 bar spring? any thoughts are appreciated! OH and should i leave the stock dual tips or just stick with the 3 inch pipe?

Single out fabspeed and BB are very good as well.
The single out borla is nice if you can find one, but they are more restrictive than the others. A 1 bar spring is a must have, period correct mod. |

I had a B&B that made power but was to quiet. Now I have Brian's Hooligan with GT2 tips in the middle. Love love love it! I had a 1bar spring in mine for the dyno but stepped back to a .9 in my tail wastegate. I'm getting up in miles on the motor. I think anything you go with instead of the stock muffler will be a joy.

I have had two Monty's and currently run Brian's center out hooligan muffler. The difference in boost onset and power is night and day. I LOVED the sound of the Monty but Brian's muffler is here to stay. Hell I'll sell you my single out Monty 100mm with original tip and as modified with a 3" stainless 90 degree tip to emulate the 934 look for 125.00 plus shipping

When you remove the stock restrictive muffler and put on a 3" inner diameter straight through muffler you're going to gain around 20 horsepower and bunch of torque with the other mods you have.
It lets the turbo breathe and your boost will go higher faster. Boost may creep up as rpms increase with shorty headers and their poor flowing wastegate pipes. The quietest 3" straight through all stainless steel mufflers are the oval Magnaflow and Borla with the tailpipe out the right side of the valance. They have room for more stainlees steel wire sound absorbtion packing material inside than any of the round mufflers so if you want power and quiet they are the best. I've heard this muffler on a 930 exiting out the right side and it's surprisingly quiet with a deep tone. Looks well made too. Magnaflow 11229 Satin Stainless Steel 3" Oval Muffler : Amazon.com : Automotive Borla makes a similar one. It looks even better, cost a little more, and it may be the best of all. |

so is the monty not a straight through? and yeah that magna flow looks similar to what turbokraft is using. I am not a engineer but it would seem that if all the pipes are three inch and straight through you would see the same back pressures? I may take you up on the monty. send me a pic.

Monty is baffled and not straight through. They look nice and cost alot but because of backpressure they don't make the most power.
I've seen the Magnaflow on Turbokraft installation pictures here. You can't beat the price if you buy one and have a welder fabricator build a system for you and they will never rust or blow out the stainless wire packing. |

There is a lot to consider when choosing a muffler, mine are not for everyone.
> Sound Level and Tone > Power Restriction > Weight > Looks / Aesthetics / Fitment > Tailpipe Configuration > Construction (aluminized steel, 304 stainless, 321 stainless) > Cost

How does a straight thru pass side exit compare to a dual out in terms of loudness/ resonance?

If it's one of the oval straight through ones it's quieter and alot lighter.

The first time I took my wife for a ride it scared her so bad she swore never get in the car again unless I promised not exceed 70MPH when she was along. I only agreed because she did not stipulate how fast I could get to 70MPH. Cole

I just got done minutes ago installing my exhaust. Removed the cat. and muffler and installed a Flowmaster super 44 series muffler. Make a coupler from the turbo to the muffler and pipe from muffler out to stock location all in 3". Sounds absolutely awesome, not to loud, not to quite and the turbo does coming in sooner. I also made a turbo dump pipe and have that on now also. I highly recommend getting rid of the factory exhaust.

The Borla muffler I mentioned is not a 930 spec muffler. It is a universal muffler with similar dimensions as the Magnaflow muffler I mentioned and they both need to be installed by you or a welder fabricator.
Materials and labor don't need to be anywhere near as expensive as currently available 930 exhaust systems. |

i guess the cost is in the tube and labor to bend them? also the fittings etc..
