I too measured with dial calipers and provided each supplier with those numbers and most thought I was nuts or didn't know what I was talking about.

3.0 was 34mm
3.3 was 39mm
3.2 was 42mm

Mine ended up being 45mm :eek: No it ain't stock

Why are the 3.3 larger than the 3.0? Based on the rest of this discussion, I would have expected the 3.3 to be smaller.

Note correction to 3.0 sizing. since I'm pulling from stuff rambling around in the head, as opposed to running to somebody's book, believe I previously quoted a 2.7 port size..

Not sure why you would think the 3.3 to be smaller. In fact there has been much discussion regarding the use of 3.2 heads for a number of reasons one of which was to get the slightly larger exhaust port.

If one were ordering gaskets, this is what our host would provide:

3.0 = 39mm - 930-111-191-13 SC & Turbo
3.3 = 39mm - 930-111-191-13 Turbo
3.2 = 42mm - 930-111-191-12 Carrera

3.3 in the 964 the same as late model 930?

There is no difference in the 3.0 and 3.3 930 port sizes, just checked some 76 and 79 stock heads.

The short answer is, yes. Same compression, same cams, but there some changes to the engine to support power steering drive, oil cooler, subtle CIS changes, larger IC, etc. More evolutionary than revolutionary.

930 long block engines from 1986-1993 are for all practical purposes identical.
The cars themselves evolved and the engines accessories were changed to accommodate.

cheers, so no 964 specific mods on the engine itself- would be looking at the same task as a 930 owner. sweet
