Buying a 3.0 930 - anybody seen this type of oil coller before?
Hi,
I am a proud owner of a brown '77 930, and now checking the market for more as I believe these will strongly rise in value, if maintained original. I found one online that I am considering buying 1977 930, ok documented, few issues but mainly good. Except for a very weird oil cooler added, that I have never seen before. Has any one of you? Best, Simon

Thats an aftermarket under floorpan AC condensor. They work very well as long as the car is moving.

Never seen one like that, and I've seen few 911/930... IMO, with that mod there, I would really search the rest of the car.

Seems like a poor place for a condensor....one stone pokes a hole and your AC is toast.

Mine still works, and I believe, it has seen at least a couple of decades.

[QUOTE=Simon930Berlin;7149245]Hi,
I am a proud owner of a brown '77 930, and now checking the market for more as I believe these will strongly rise in value, if maintained original. Go for it. It has the Sport seats and a long time owner with expensive repairs that usually need to be done that have been done . Black on black and lots of originality even tho not a garage queen it looks to be "a no expense spared"well maintained driver from a good inland climate. Not hacked up. Seems real cheap if it sells for not much more. There are overseas buyers that have local CA phone numbers that know how to ace you out of it so be aggressive if you want it. Don't think you are the only one that will pay up for it. If I did not already have too many 77s that I want to keep and recently just sold a few more ( overseas) that I was not that fond of, I would be very interested as it seems like the right kind of car. Just sold. nice buy

Back then there were no used 964/993 front condensors to modify and put in a 911 front fender well and no aftermarket rear fender well kits and that underbody condensor was the best way to get good cold AC available. They are NLA and used ones are sought after by some people in hot climates that want cold AC. Only downside is the car has to be moving to keep airflow over it so it can do it's job and of course some ground clearance. If the tubes are copper like most old tube and fin condensors they can be brazed or soldered if one is ever punctured. |

Anybody need one?
I hope this is not in poor form. Seams the OPs ? was answered.
I took one off my 930. Its now taking up space in my shop. What would a fair asking price be. Seams in good shape for it's age.

I too have one of those leviathans taking up space on my shelf, too damn heavy to ship to anybody, but if anybody is in the Seattle area, and would like to take it off my hands, I'll be more than accommodating / trade for something?

Although you may believe our cars will increase considerably in value for the future, virtually all cars become a negative-return investment. A better ROI(if making a financial gain is your interest) over a 10-year period might just be a simple CD, or a savings bond.

@voitureltd: didnt get it, still on the lookout.
@Tilikm Turbo: I strongly disagree. You cant drive bonds aroun! And as for the investment I was thinking of the 3.0's only, as anything Porsche that's old and rare at some point really goes up..!? Too many 3.3's around if you ask me. And the wale-tail is just beautiful... |
