Backup light switch connector 87 930
Quick question. anyone point me to a part number for the electrical connector that plugs into the the reverse light switch on the trans. State inspector said reverse lights were out so its been on my todo list. Started some chassis cleaning and exploring under the car I found this bare wire and connector hanging there so I think I found my problem. Does our host sell these things http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1362259057.jpg

You should be able to find a similar sized connector at any auto part store then plug them into the switch.
|
Not sure where to get the wire connectors but yeah, the plastic part of the reverse light switch sometimes takes a shot against something hard while the motor and transmission is being moved around on a floor jack during r&r.
|
i had the same problem, looked everywhere for that connector and could not find one. i went to the local porsche junkyard and bought the end of the wiring lead off them. pretty cheap. I bet if you call any of the porsche recyclers you can buy it for 10 or 20 bucks.

if i am looking at the picture correct it looks like the actual switch is toast as well. pelican has them. i would replace as well, its made of plastic or ceramic and if it gets cracked it wont work. at least mine didn't.

Been there, done that, you won't be able to find a ball/bullet tip connector of the proper size. It has to fit tight.
I savaged my old one and soldered it to a piece if wire and spliced it in place. See if your tip is stuck in the switch and try and extract/ repair it, or make a trip to the bone yard. |
That reverse light switch is mangled. The entire top is broken off but it might still work.
Pelican no longer sells the origonal german one, they only sell a URO chinese one. It may work fine. You can still get a german one at a good price if you know where to go. |
Thanks
Thanks everyone I've been offline for awhile. I was curious about the switch being bad too. I will go ahead and get a replacement so I have it on hand. Will continue the hunt for the connector and checkout the local salvage yards.

if you want i can stop by the local porsche place here in phoenix and see if they have one? PM me I would be happy to go down and see if they have any and mail it off to you.
|
and yeah get a new switch to. I think pelican has them? yours is FUBAR

This probably comes a bit late, but Tower Hobbies stocks 5mm bullet connectors that work with the backup light switch. TrakPower Speed Equipment Gold plated bullet connector, male, PN TKPP5603; and Reedy Low Profile Caged No. 792 both work. They fit tight.
|
I bought a bag of them from someone online.....I bet I have some spares if you still need them.
As Nightlighting says, they are just 5mm bullet connectors. Never thought to check the hobby store. Good idea. |
