335/35-15 or 295/40-15
Hi,
I've been doing some reserach regarding new wheels on my 930 and need some advise. As I plan to get out more power in the future I suspect that my stock 245/45-16 tires won't be enough to put the power to the ground. Either I will go with 17" Fuchs or with 15". I found some threads of the 15" Braid Fuchs and I think they look really cool! However, it seems uncertian if I can fit 335/35-15 tires with 12" wide rims in the rear without modification? Does anybody know if this is possible? I have seen cases where 345/35-15 tires are fitted, but you then need to re-route the oil-lines and also grind down the alignment bolts. Is it acutally the rubber of the tire that is "rubbing", or is the 12" Rims too wide? Also, I'd like to get your opionon what width I shall go with on the front rims, fitting 215/55-15 tires. Shall I go with 15x8 och 15x9 ? I'm afraid that the tire won't cover the outer parts of the rim if I go with 15x9. The tires I will use are Michelin TB15. Pics would be highly appreciated. Many Thanks in advance! ![]() / Tobias Last edited by Toby930; 04-15-2013 at 01:31 AM.. |

The red rocket had 12x15 Fuchs with Yokohama AVS 345/35-15. To track this car I had to move the oil lines up, grind down the alignment bolts and trim the fenders.
![]() The grey slant has the same 12x15 wheels, now painted body color. Tires are Pirelli P-Zero 345/35-15 which run about the same size as the Yokos. Had to do the same treatment with the oil lines and bolts. Fenders were shaved as well. You need as much room as possible if you don't want to rub at Euro ride height.

Thanks for the input Guys!
Can it be that there is "enough" difference between the 345/35-15 and 335/35-15 tires, to get away with no mods at all? Looks like Peter had no issues with his 335's. Brian: When you say "shaved fenders", what part of the fender is modded? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure that 335/35-15 tires fit in without mods before buying new rims and rubber. As you all know, they are not cheap :-P |

There is no guarantee without measuring the actual tires on the size rims you will use. Manufacturer variance is HUGE. The Yokohama AVS 345/35-15 were a full 3/4" wider than the early Pirrelli 345/35-15 on the same rims (Yoko had 13.5" tread width, Pirelli 12.75"). The difference between the Pirelli P7 and P-Zero was the same 3/4".
These 335/35-15 tires I am not familiar with. No idea what the actual dimensions are. Trimming the fender is cutting off the lip. I don't like rolling fenders.

I see!
According to the specs from Michelin, the actual width of the TB15 tire is: 330mm = 12,99" Michelin TB15 I guess I can try to measure this on the car when I have her up on the lift. |

On a 13x15 rim the 335's measure 14.125" at the widest part of the tire. The 215's on a 8x15" measure 9.250" at the widest part of the tire. The tire would be slightly wider on a 12x15. These tires have that old school side wall bulge. The widest part of the tire is about half way up the side wall. The DP fenders are wider than the 930. The 2nd shot is a 295/335 comparison.

Harold ...
The first tire the 295 is a 26/61 correct? I have a set of those on the rear of my RSR build and I am certain that I should be able to bump up to the 29/62 for the rear next go around with no issues. Right now I have made no adjustments from the stock 86 chassis suspension. Just mounted the wheels and welded the flares. Im running custom made rsr flares .. them seem a bit wider then the sstock turbo flares ... just a little but not much. Im running -27 offset in the rear on 15 inch Braids. Would give a better front rear dia as I have 23/62 on the front on -3 offset 9 inch Braids. Ill have to post some pics when I get to port in a few days. |

tocobill: 26/61 = 295. The 23/62 = 270/45/15. I tried mounting the 23/62 (270's) on the front of our '75 Carrera with turbo flares using a 9x15 wheel. The 23/62 are approximately 1.5" taller than the 26/61 and rubbed when I turned the wheel.
I have a new pair of the 270's I'm selling for $300 less than the current price if anyone is interested.

Gotcha. Its tough to buy tires not knowing if they will fit and only have a small pool of interested buyers. The main reason I didnt go 29/62 in the rear right off the bat. Got mine from Longstone .. free shipping and 10% off. Yep, no problems with my fenders in the front and rubbing. Plenty of room on the inside and looks good on the outside. I have the arch in the flare similar to the ST and RSR so I think that helps out. I was worried about my dual fender oil coolers but it all seems to work well together.

Thanks for all the feedback Guys!
So, according to the measurement Gumba did on the 335 tires (14.125"), It's probably rather tough to fit them on my 930 without doing any mods... I will try to measure this out as soon as she is on the lift. What about ET (offset) on the Braid Fuchs? Any idea if I will need to go with spacers fitting either 12x5 / 11x5 in the rear, or 8x15 / 9x15 in front? What do you guys make of the offsets here: BRAID USA Thanks |

The mods are easy and need done even if the tires fit so you have as much room as possible.
> Roll or trim the fenders (the only permanent mod) > Push the oil lines up into the fender well and adjust bracket to new spot > Grind down the suspension arm nuts to about 1/2 thickness (you can change these out easy if you want to go back stock).

That's True Brian :-) Thanks for confirming that!
How much did you trim down your fenders? |

Im running the Braids 11x15 ET- (-27) and 9x15 ET- (-3) with no spacers on 9 and 11 inch RSR flares. Not sure how much the extra .5 inch you want on your wheels will affect the offsets. Give Paul a call at Braid. He is pretty strait forward. IF you got with a stock offset you can exchange them if the offset dosnt work out. IF you go custom and it doesnt work out .. your pretty much stuck with wheels. I got mine through Broken Motorsports which is a Braid dealer. They had them in stock.
Forgot you where in Sweden ... So the last part is probally no help with the US distributors, lol. |

If you have steel flares you can also roll the fender lip flat and stretch the metal using a wooden baseball bat. I did this on my early 911, and on my VW bus. On the bus I gained 3/8"-1/2" more room.
I also undersize the backspacing so I can add up to a 1/4" spacer. I've found that the fenders aren't always symmetrical, so this lets me add a spacer to match the tire to fender lip distance on both sides. The 13x15's have a 7" backspacing, and the 11x17's have a 6" backspacing.

Hmmm, seems that I will need to measure out everything very carefully before I can order the rims. Want to make sure that the offset will be correct.
I have asked Paul at Braid to check if the offset they have on the rims will fit the 930. Otherwise I guess I have to get them custom made? |
