Corner balance scales question
Hi,
I found a set of used scales for sale a while back and sent the guy an email. Months went by and he responded saying that he still has them but he had forgotten about the email address setup for the sale. They have a weight limit of 1100lbs each. I have a 1985 Euro 930. It is probably normal weight as I only did the usual suspension upgrades, with ER stuff, no weight removing. I tried to get corner balance numbers from a search here but most cars are in the 2600lbs range. Mine is stock weight which I would assume is around 3000lbs. What kind of weight will I see on the rear wheels? Will the scales work? Thanks guys David

Even if you were roughly 3200lbs, figure 60% rear weight, that would be 1920lbs to both rear wheels. Or 960lbs per wheel.

If they are mechanical you might want to verify or calibrate them

Here are my numbers for 79 930.....car weighs 3090 lbs with me in it. Mostly stock except for light racing seats, but added back the weight with a half roll cage.
61% rear is your problem at roughly .6*3090/2 = 927 lbs. This is never an even split between rear wheels because more weight resides on the drivers side. 1100lbs might be ok, but your getting close and scales typically are more accurate mid range and lose out at the ends of the spectrum. I say it should work for your car. fred

I just dugout the file with my actual corner weight values after I installed my new suspension pieces. LF= 620 RF= 564 LR= 968 RR= 939 total weight with driver 3091lbs, 3/4 tank of gas, cross weights 49.7% Sounds like your car has alot of the same mods as mine. Except you have the raised spindles in front. Did that change make a big difference in handling? Thanks, Fred

Thanks Fred for the numbers!
I got the spindles raised at the same time as i did everything else on the suspension so it is hard to tell. I had some bump steer i think but i am not sure that's what it was for sure. I couldn't get the rack spacer as the 930 suspension does not have clearance on top of the rack like the 911 and i did not want to get just a bump steer kit on the spindles without the added support of the ER racing one so i called Chuck at ER and that's what he recommended. I'm very happy with the setup. David |

Its the only thing I have not done yet and am trying to justify the cost versus benefit ratio as I dont have a money tree in the back yard. Fred

Yeah I know... what justified me doing it was when I went to the alignment shop after all the rest of the mods to the suspension, there was a 0.5 degree play in my strut because the internal axial bearings were worn out a bit. They needed a rebuild so I shipped them to ER and got them to raise the spindles at the same time.
