WTB: Brake Upgrades for 89 Carrera w/ 3.3T
Alright, I have finally got my narrow body 89 Carrera running right. It has a LSD G 50, 3.3T with Sc cams, Andial IC, BL WUR, with RPM module/ control, K27, headers, ZORK, 1 bar WG spring, Euro Fuel Distributor/ Injectors/ Fuel Lines, AEM A/F guage, AEM water/ methanol (not yet installed).
![]() Needless to say it goes like stink. I am moving on to the next stage of improving the car and will focus on brake enhancements to deal with the extra speed. I have researched some of the brake enhancements and would like to see what, if any anyone on this forum may have for sale. I prefer "bolt on". I have 17" "Cup" style rims and should be able to fit large rotors and calipers. Anyone have a nice set up for sale?? Mike |

996 N/A is comparable heat capacity to 930, and has much better bias than 996TT (especially with the RS14 rear pads, Pagid yellows front trick). Light, stiff - a 930 M/C is required. Bags of room under Cups; they fit under Ruf - which are tight on the caliper on the fronts. You may need a turbo (965 or 996) spare, if you carry one. A little "fitting" being necessary on the rear swing arms/rear adapters stops it being 100% bolt on. Oh, and drilling a couple of holes in the rear rotor bell for the parking brake adjusters - which isn't strictly necessary, but is a very good idea... Pedal feel under hard braking is very good; easy to modulate just short of lock. I flush the brake fluid yearly and don't bother bleeding the brakes before or after I go to the track - no need. Oh, and the custom hubs move the wheel slightly inboard; my fenders were already rolled, but my 225/40/17's have more clearance now than they did before. To the point where I'm pretty sure 235/45/17's would have bags of room...

Thanks for the PMs and replies. I am very handy and can do all the work myself. I just do not want to re-invent the "wheel" when it comes to the brake set up. Am I realistic thinking that I can have big brakes for about $1-1.3K with some searching. Just need to determine which package works best for me. What set ups are people running? I know most on this board have factory Turbos and haven't had do to much with brakes. I will post a picture of my car later at some point.

Sorry...did not wash the car for the photo shoot. Definately not a "garage queen" laid up in cotton.

[ ] Realistic [X] Not Realistic You /can/ get lucky. But those deals usually aren't around until after you put your hand in your pocket and do it the hard way. And those deals really don't stay around very long either.

You might also try VCI: VCI - Porsche 911- 930 69-89, 914/6 brake upgrade page.
I know a few folks running Wilwood callipers & rotors. Not sure of the model number. You might try posting on the 911 forum. Realistically, I think your in the $3K range with pretty much any set up.
