Need assistance on a VIN no please

Hi,

I'm about to buy a project 930, but the VIN number is of concern.

the numbers are:
Engine: 6303000
VIN: 91A0133214

My research says that theVIIN should be a 1980 911SC, since the turbo should start with 93A07....

However, i was also told that many 930's had the 91A01 numbers???

Can anybody assist me please?

thanks in advance

What year is the car you are referring to (1980?)? If so, according to Bruce Anderson's book, Porsche 911 Performance Handbook, in 1980 a 10 digit VIN was used that started with 91 for a 911 and 93 for a 930/911 Turbo. There is no mention of any 930s starting with "91".

Call up any local law agency(non-emergency number), with plate and Vin, and ask them to run it for you.

In many States it is against the law(for a law enforcement agency)to run a plate or vin# for other than legal purposes.

Try a Porsche dealer or Porsche of North America.

See if this helps http://stuttcars.com/technical/vin-decoder/

All anyone can do is say 'no'. There was no claim in the response that the request was than for other than legal purposes. Calling up the local police, and telling them your suspect of a plate/vin is a perfectly 'legal' concern. If they do or don't may just be a function of how the question or request stated.

In TX they can only look up that information if they are in an investigation. I have confirmed this with DPS, two counties, and two municipalities.

I don't think they will risk their career over that particularly to someone over the phone. It's a shame, but also a protective measure.

The Porsche 911 SC, Turbo 3.3 Technical Specifications Booklet, '78, '79, '80, and '81 has your answer:

For the VIN:

91A0133214
91 = 911
A = Model Year 1980
0 = Manufacturing Plant
1 = Type Supplement 911
3 = 911, 3.0 liter, RoW
3214 - Consecutive Serial Number

For the engine:

6303000
6 = 6 cylinder engine
3 = 911 SC RoW
0 = 1980
3000 - Consecutive Serial Number

The VIN and engine number match a RoW 1980 911 SC
