Hello to all, Finally the car is here. Going to pick it up at Port of Newark Friday. All the customs paper work & EPA DOT stuff is worked out. As for registering the car in NY, DMV is making me jump thru some hoops as for translation of German title & they want all Customs doc to be original even though they say paperless on them. I spoke with the importer & best advice they had was to have docs stamped by customs at Newark airport so that still needs to be done. I hope there is no damage to vehicle as I have not seen it yet, will update after Friday. FYI DMV wants tax for car, I valued it at 35K so @ 8.65%........ Does anyone here from NY know if they can tax a vehicle that was is already in my name on the German Title & was a gift from my Uncle? More info soon, wish me luck guys. Thanks, Alex

Every state crap-aka DMV rules/law are different. You may be entitled to a gift..free of tax. Plus the car was already under your name. So it should be just a matter of title transfer plus whatever the custom/import tax is. Do your due diligence prior to handing over your hard earned cash.

The car is in my garage. Halleluiah!!!. Arrived dirty & with a flat battery because someone left the ignition on. But the good news is its safe sound & in its new home. Next step, the dreaded DMV of NY..
