I just got my car back from the dealer and was told that I need to replace my fuel distributor and have may injectors cleaned. I just resurrected this car out of a guys garage after it had sat for 12 years. I replaced all the fuel with a really good injector cleaner after I had the tank cleaned. I also went through each fuel line and replaced the filter and front pump(which is still wining like crazy). The car now will starve for fuel I think and jerk around like crazy. I assume that they are right but I need some good advice since that's a really expensive part. The Idle is also a little up and down but I have only been able to put around 75 miles on since I got it running. Any advice?

Hi Cory I have an entire CIS system for sale. Euro fuel head and bigger fuel lines. If this route is more cost effective for you, feel free to make an offer.

Thanks for the info. I really want to have someone help me do a little diagnostics so I know what to really look for.

It probably needs to be taken apart and cleaned out with solvent.
If the stainless steel diaphram between the upper and lower diferential chambers is dimpled under the metering orifices leading up to the injector line banjo fittings it should be replaced. The control plunger in the middle may be stuck from gas turning to varnish. It can be cleaned with solvent and lubed with WD40 to free it up. If you have the tools clamp it in a bench vise and take the screws out of the bottom and take it apart keeping track of where the parts go. Do a search, there are threads on the technical forum with pictures people have taken while taking them apart and putting them back together with sealent spread very thin on the mating surfaces by carefully spreading it on with a single edge razorblade. I think some people used permatex aviation number 2 non hardening gasket sealer that's been around since the 40's and some people used the loctite sealent for 911 case halves. Alot of that stuff including hylomar was invented for high performance piston aircraft engines during those years. |

thanks for the advice. I drove it last night and at about 3000rpm in first it starts to gasp for gas if you know what I mean. The car just starts to buck like crazy if I get any higher on the rpm. Is that consistent with the distributor being gummed up?

Did you make sure your fuel pump fuse is fitted properly/not loose or burnt?

I haven't checked the fuse but I did replace the front pump after it started wining really bad. The first step I always take when it breaks is to pull the line off each pump and test the pump. They are both pumping great so then I moved on to the filter which was pretty plugged up. I replaced that and also removed each fuel line to the distributor and blew them out then replaced. I think I have someone that will rebuild the FD and the WUR. I guess I also need to have the injectors cleaned. I cant imaging that there is a whole lot left for the fuel system after that is done. I did notice last night that both pumps are really noisy. They seem to be pumping fine and the car has had the same problem since the start of my fix up. Anything else I should look at before spending the money on what I listed?

Also check intake track for leaks.
