SC rotor on 78 930 motor
Is there any reason not to run an SC rotor on my 78 930? It doesn't have the rev limiter but I am running a Crane hi-6N ignition box that controls that. I broke my rotor today when the distributor came loose. There was an SC Rotor on there and I had another in the glove box, thank goodness otherwise I would have been in a bind.

Ignigtion Rotor
I think that you should be fine if you have a built in rev limiter in your Crane 6N.

I ran a 78 SC non rev limiter in my car with no problems.

It is fine. I do run both the rotor limiter and an electronic limiter though. Belt and suspenders thing.

Thanks for the comments. I guess I will just keep running the SC rotor. I think I will also carry an extra cap, I was lucky it didn't damage the cap. I was in the middle the hill country in TX.

If your running after market ignition the resistance may be important. I melted a few rotors using MSD before I found a lower resistance rotor from a 964 I think?

Good point, but other than the broken rotor there doesn't seem to be any heat damage.
The rotor broke when the cap clip came off and the rotor made impact with the cap while driving. Which btw my Crane 6N seems to be working great. The idle smoothed out over the CDI. I kept the CDI for posterity reasons.

I checked right quick but didn't see it Ken. I do remember seeing that part number somewhere though.

like Ken911 stated there is a VW rotor does not melt from the MSD and the like CDIs, I was in Germany and had to use a Bosch resistor rotor (NAPA would not mail it to an APO address), I worried about it melting and figured I'd deal with it when it happened. As soon as I got back to the States I bought the NAPA VW rotor without the resistor. But the Bosch resistor rotor served me with no problem for 2 years and still looks good.
