1.5 bar boost guage

Anyone know why the 77 cars have a 1.5 boost gauge and all the other years of the 930 read 1 bar?,
Is there something different in the engine configuration?

75-'76 930s didn't have a boost gauge on the tach..'77 was the first year and had the 1.5 bar boost gauge. The only 930 to have this style stock. All 3.3 litre cars '78-'89 had the 1 bar boost gauges. Maybe it had something to do with the 3.0 litre motor, but I speculate this tach/ boost gauge was used on racing applications and carried over. The 3.0 litre motors were all similar in HP, torque and boost (bar/psi) relative to US and euro spec models. Boost was the same at 11.6 psi for all cars. The '75-'77 porsche 930s were a work in progress with different styling/ equipment changes each of the three years. The tach/boost gauge being one of those small changes.

But the 75/76 years still had one even though it wasn't on the tacho right?, i think the earlier years had one mounted vertically in the guage opp the oil pressure if i remember correctly.

Maybe they didn't want some people getting creative and trying to make the needle go to 1.5bar before the warranty ran out.

I have a 77 ROW 930 and it has a 1 bar gauge. and it is maxed out once i turn the key as well ..lol

would a ROW 77 930 engine come stock with 1.5 bar spring when replacing the system.

What you might have been hoping to hear... "Yeah, the 77's were built to handle 1.5 bar"...unfortunately isn't a reality. Still, it's pretty cool to be the only year to have one in that range.

Yes those will do a nice job. Another choice. This is early one is from Porsche Motorsports and could be used in the 75-76 turbos for the lack of boost gauge in the stock production models. Referred to as SC ( Super Carrera ?)

How do the electronic boost gauges read boost? Is there a sensor somewhere? Where? My electronic boost gauge on the tach never worked, popping to 1 bar whenever the ignition is on. My car came with a gauge like VotureLTD's, but from ANDIAL, so I figure the one on the tach was disconnected from something or other years ago. Replaced it for one of the VDO-style boost gauges that go into the clock hole, which I got from Hollywood Speedo, but without the telltale needle.

VoitureLTD, cool gauge man. Those always reminded me of birth control pill boxes. I sold mine on Ebay a few years ago and got $400 for it even though I had disclosed it didn't work for crap. I never knew Porsche Motorsport had those as well.

Mine works just fine. Yes, mine is a Porsche one as indicated on the gauge. I have another Christmas tree boost gauge in a 84 Kremer but is a VDO face plate. That one works good also. Maybe yours was defective? It was pretty early for this type of technology. Two out of three ain't bad. They are really great at night. when you get into the red zone it really gets your attention as it gets much brighter the higher it goes with red indicating possible over boosting for to long, so shift is the right response.

zaman fu, They both came in the car when I bought the car so I have no idea of whatever makes them work or how they were installed.
