What are the higher ratios?

quattrorunner 11-15-2014 08:44 PM

BTW I just slayed another 915 second gear.
Anyone have a spare 915?
Wonder how many my car will consume?

Robbbyg 11-15-2014 10:36 PM

Maybe its using used parts that is the cause of your probs and not inherent socalled weakness of the 915, i see a couple of guys here are running 400hp with no problem
Interesting read here which is exactly what i meant when i said the shorter gears of the 915 is like putting extra 50hp at the wheels over the standard 930 box

Performance gearing has been a staple of Porsche performance since 1948. Selecting the proper transmission ratios for your gearbox is an integral part of improving Porsche 911 automobiles. It has been said that installing a set of shorter spaced gear ratios is like adding 50 HP to your car!

Oh I get it Ronnie and others!
If you dont know about something its not true ?

What a bunch of Twits

LIKE adding. NOT adding. There is like a big difference. No wait a sec. There IS a big difference. If you added 50 hp to the same car it would be even better.
The short ratios quicken the feel. But there is a trade off. Lower speed.
The best thing would be to have tall gear with big power.
And about your comment on the used parts you may be right. They are over 30 years old and over 100k miles in them.

Robby, that is what's known as an illusion of more horse power (like Brandon noted above).

You may want to suck it up and get some beefier custom gears, a lot cheaper in the long run. We retained the stock 1st & 2nd gear in our Wevo race trans. Sent the gears out, had them inspected, looked good. 2nd gear didn't very long, and did a bunch of damage to the trans. This was with a 325 h.p. n.a. motor. We've been using Guard 2-5 gears for the past 6-7 years (3 yrs on the track with 2 drivers) with no issues.
